Silver Slams Poetry Event

Over at Pub & Lit, we have just introduced our newest, reoccuring event, Silver Slams! The Silver Slams event consists of preliminary rounds and a final! We are looking for the poets of our university scene to perform and hopefully make it to the final!

Smedias shortlist

We are overjoyed to have made it to the final round of judging in two categories in this years Student Media Awards (Smedias). The Smedias take place in Mansion House in Dublin on the 10th of April.

The Silver Hand is a finalist in the 'Society Publication of the Year' category. 

Our editor-in-chief, Emma will be representing Silver Hand in the 'Editor of the Year 2024' category.

Three Publit members, Diana, Arianna, and Samuel are also finalists in the short story of the year award. 


We could not be more proud and are looking forward to the busy week ahead.

We are so excited to be representing Maynooth University at the BICS on the 11th of April. We have been nominated for the Most Improved Society category and are looking forward to the experience.

We are excited to announce that six Publit members are heading to Bristol for the Student Publication Association National Conference and Awards weekend. Our journal, the  Silver Hand has been shortlisted for the best newcomer publication at the awards, which take place over the weekend from the 12th to the 14th of April. The weekend is jam packed full of one-on-one clinics, workshops and panel discussions.

We are delighted to share that we have entered the Silver Hand Journal into the Student Publication Associations awards, for the first time ever as we have recently become a member of this association! 

Committee Members address English class

On Thursday, two of our committee members, Emma and Hannah, addressed a third year English class to promote the Silver Hand journal and try and spread the word about what we do! Thanks to Dr. O' Hanlon of the English department for allowing us to address his lecture class and thank you to the students present for their warm reception! 

Student Publication Association

We are delighted to announce that our journal, Silver Hand, has been accepted as a Student Publication Association (SPA) member. Every member of our society now has access to professional workshops and resources that cover a range of exciting topics. SPA aims to provide help and guidance to student publications, showcasing work at a regional and national level. They also run events, an annual conference, and an awards night. Formed in Southampton in 2012 and registered as a charity in 2020, they now represent 175 student publications across the UK, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland. We are looking forward to getting involved and availing of all the events and training on offer. 

Collab with Classics Soc for Book Club

For the month of November, our book club will be hosted in collaboration with members of the Classics society. Our book club members voted for our book of the month, Circe by Madeline Miller based on suggestions from the Classics society! Looking forward to our two book club sessions, starting on Tuesday the 14th of November followed by Tuesday the 28th of November in Rye Events Space from 4 to 5 pm.

Publication and Literary Society AGM

Join us on Wednesday the 27th of September for our AGM in the education building (SE011). Food will be provided and you can come along to cast your vote, run for a position, meet your committee members or simply mingle with fellow society members, whatever you wish! 

MU Times Travel Writing Competition

We at MU Times are running a collab with ESN to encourage students to write about their experience of online learning while studying abroad/on Erasmus in Maynooth University or abroad. Women in Stem Collab

Women in Stem are collaborating with MUTimes! With a writing competition (as advertised as well on Instagram @womeninstem and @mutimes19) is being held until the 8th of March to write a piece of literature on women in stem you most admire. The winner gets their article published in MUTimes online website!
