Does the club compete?
Yes, The club competes in the SSI League and Cup throughout the year. It also competes in the annual Intervarsity event.
When is training?
Training is on: Tuesday 8-10pm Thursday 8-10pm Friday 3-5 pm
Are Rackets provided?
The club has a limited number of rackets available for members to use.

Should I join..?
Yes :)
How do I join for the Leinster League?
Firstly, an ICU chess membership is necessary and can be purchased through icu.ie for €20 at current student rate. The join either the A team or B team and play in the fixtures held during the year! It is a classical time format and rated, featuring 60¦30 games.

How do I join?
Becoming a member is simple! The entry fee is €3 for the year! This covers you for all events and activities. Simply pay online on MuLife and turn up!
What competitive aspects take place
If you're willing to delve into the sharper aspects of the game, look no further! This year (24/25) will see two teams participate in the Leinster League competition. In-house tournaments and Intervarsity events is also on the cards!
I cannot make it to the in-person events...
That's no problem at all! Our online activities held on a Friday evening and Saturday evening for this very purpose. If you're commuting or travelling far, or perhaps it is just a little too late for you, we hope you can make the online events instead!
Does the club hold lessons?
Yes! Our theory sessions are held on Tuesday evenings from 6pm to 8pm on a weekly basis!
I don't know how to play chess...
That's absolutelty fine! You don't have to be a GM to join, nor have any experience at the game to start delving into chess as a whole, Our experienced team will show you the ropes and together with our weekly acticities, this will give you a better feel for the game of chess!
What does the club do?

Aikido Club FAQs
I am not very fit. Is this a problem?
No it is not a problem. We cater for people of all shapes of sizes. Aikido is very good for getting fit and will develop a strong core.
Are there competitions in Aikido?
No. We do not have competitions.
What should I wear?
You need something loose that you can move in. Tracksuit is ideal.
Do I need to have done Aikido before?
No. We cater for beginners at all times.
Judo Club FAQs
Where does training take place?
Training takes place on campus in the PE Hall in the Sports Centre
How much is each session?
The first session is free and it is €2 per session after that
Do I need to buy equipment?
The club provides judo go for all members so you do not need to buy anything
What are the training times?
Training times are 18:00 - 19:30 on Monday and Wednesday in the PE Hall in the Sports Centre
Film Society FAQs
How do you choose the movies you screen?
Society members vote for them on our various platforms, between four options suggested by the committee.
What type of movies do you screen?
Any movie and all movies. We have watched anything from Casablanca to Barbie, passing through Shaolin Soccer and Scream in the process. We also try to include a lot of international films, indie films and older films into our catalogue so there is a movie for everyone.
How do I stay updated on events and screenings?
There are many ways to stay up to date on the events of our society so here is a list: Instagram: @mufilm Discord server Mailing list Whatsapp groupchat You can find the links to those on our page after signing up.
Do I need prior film knowledge to join?
No, not at all. This is a society for anyone interested in movies or wanting a nice space to watch movies with other people adn talk about them!
Who can join the film society?
Everyone! Whether you are an erasmus student here for a semester, or a PhD student here for 6 years, everyone is welcome in our society and to our screenings. The more the merrier!
Do you have special events?
Yes! Absolutely, we have a lot of fun additional events, here is a list of things we migh do this year: - pub quizzes - collaborations with other societies - cinema trips - short-film competition - going to a movie premiere - screening student films - attending film festival And many more!
How can I sign up?
You can join by going to our homepage on MULife (click on societies in the tabs at the top of the page and choose Film) and clicking the "request membership button". After that you can fill out the form and don't forget to pay the 3€ fee or we won't be able to approve you!
How often are the screenings?
Every Wednesday evenings from 6:30 till the end of the movie! Sometimes we have additional screenings for special events like halloween or collabs
