"To all those who have had their love of history destroyed by the absolute boring manner in which it is taught in school, I say there is hope. Ireland being the small fry that it is, has nonetheless managed to pack in more history then most. There are unknown stories all over, forgotten and forlorn, but as writers you can bring them to the surface, and I'd like to help you learn how. To that end, I'm running a creative non-fiction workshop, Monday, December 9 in Rye Space 2, from 1-3pm. Bring your pens and some paper."

Our AGM will be taking place in TSI 028 this from 6-8pm this evening.

We will be conducting our elections through MU Life. 

The roles to be filled are:

Secretary - Main roles include sending out the weekly email and booking rooms for weekly events.

Treasurer - Managing the budget and cheques of the society.

Events Officer - Will be working closely with our PRO, Terri, organising special events and booking the location for said events.

Year Rep - Mainly promoting the society on social media through reposting anything from the society's page and a promotional voice on campus and within their year group.

Once we have all vacancies filled, we will finish the AGM with a fun quiz.

Prizes such as a PubLit jumper and two book tokens will be awarded to first, second, and third places.

There will be pizza, sweets, and fizzy drinks available. 

If you have any questions about the society, we will be delighted to answer them this evening.

Are you interested in learning more about the editing process for the Silver Hand? Or even want to be an editor on committee for the academic year 2024/2025? Well look no further, the editors of the Silver Hand will be hosting a workshop to break down the process and outline all that the role involves. 

In collaboration with the Japanese Culture Society, we bring you a haiku workshop! We will be teaching you how to make your very own haiku and giving advice and prompts along the way. Refreshments will be provided, hope to see you there. 

This is a great opportunity to gain insight into the world of prose with a workshop hosted by none other than Dr Francesca Bratton, MU writer in residence. Come along to get tips and advice and get to know fellow members too!

Introducing..... our very first writers' circle in which we encourage members to come along and work on creative pieces only, completely independent of the journal. This is a space to simply write, with no pressure or expectations. You can write on your own or work with a group, using your own idea or a prompt, it is completely up to you. We can review your work and provide feedback if you want, again it is up to the writer.

We aim to host writer' circle monthly so keep an eye on the MULife page as well as emails and Instagram for details.

We are delighted to announce that we will be holding a launch event to celebrate the release of the Silver Hand print edition on Wednesday the 13th of December, from 7-9pm. This is going to be a night filled with music, fun, and readings from the exclusive content of the print edition. It is a ticketed event and you must book your ticket on MULife under the 'My Listings' section. The price of the ticket is €3.50 and includes a physical copy of the print edition to bring home. Food will also be provided. This is an evening to celebrate to celebrate the Silver Hand and Publit as a whole, hope to see you there!

The proceeds of this quiz hosted in collaboration with Classics will be donated to the Palestine Childrens Relief Fund along with the funds raised at our book sale in November. Please come along and support a good cause. Entry will be €3 on the night (cash/revolut). There will be a raffle on the night as well as refreshments!

Our Second Hand Book Drive is coming in semester 2 due to popular demand! 

We will be hosting a collection point for second hand books for all who wish to donate. The perfect opportunity for a New Years clean out!

All who donate will get one token for a free book swap at the Second Hand Book Sale later in the semester.

Our writers’ sessions are back but refashioned into our news room. This time will be used to write, edit, get approval and brainstorm all articles going into the silver hand.

The MU Times are holding a Christmas themed Competition. We invite you to write a review or an opinion piece of your favourite Christmas film. Let us know why your favourite Christmas film is the best Christmas film ever! The winning article will be published on the MU Times website and it will be crowned MU's favourite Christmas film of all time! There is no wordcount so your articles can be absolutely any length that you like! We hope this competition will get your creative juices flowing and help you get into the festive mood! MU Times AGM will be on the 14th October at 7pm and all Maynooth students are invited and welcome to attend. There will be committee positions up for grabs and a chance to get to know all the MU Times members. You will also hear all about the plans for the year. Looking forward to meeting you all virtually very soon!

We will be hosting a writing workshop in Room 1 downstairs in the Students Union at 11am on Wednesday 4th of March. We will be sharing topics  and plans and brainstorming article ideas together! We are so excited to meet you!

MU Times coffee morning will take place in Room 2 upstairs in the students union. Everyone is welcome. It's a great way to meet members and the committee over a hot drink and some nibbles! We are so excited to see you there!

We will be hosting a Writer's Workshop on Wednesday the 19th of February in Room 2 Student's Union. We will be going through the format of articles, showing you the website and brainstorming ideas together. We can't wait to see you there!

A coffee morning will be held in Room 2 of the Students Union on the 18th of February at 10am. Everyone is more than welcome to come along. It will be a brilliant opportunity to meet committee members and fellow members. You can learn more about the society, ask any questions you have and share ideas. We will be also be accepting the 2 euro membership fees and membership requests on MU Life. We cannot wait to meet you!

MU Times will have a stand at the clubs and socs fair upstairs in the Phoenix building. It will be a great opportunity to meet the committee and ask any questions you may have.
