Best Society Event
3rd Place 2024/2025 (Nell McCafferty Moot Court Competition)
Do I have to be a woman to join ?
---
Not at all! While our society focuses on supporting women in law, anyone who wants to be an ally, man, woman or non binary, is more than welcome to join.
What makes us different to the other law societies on campus ?
We stand out because our society is not just about studying or networking within the legal field, it’s about promoting gender equality and empowering women in a traditionally male-dominated profession. We run events that combine professional development with advocacy, encouraging members to engage critically with social justice and gender issues. Overall, we are a community focused on empowerment, education, and equality, not just career progression.

Location: School of EducationThe Women in Law society are delighted to announce the second year of the Nell McCafferty Annual Mooting Competition, which will take place on Saturday, 7th February 2026. This annual competition is named in honour of Nell McCafferty, a pioneering advocate for women’s rights and co-founder of the Irish Women’s Liberation Movement. It aims to celebrate her legacy while providing a platform for aspiring legal minds to refine their advocacy skills in a competitive setting. I have attached the Moot Question Pack for Participants to this email for your reference. Our Moot Court Competition is a fantastic opportunity for students to improve their advocacy skills, connect with others in a supportive setting, and empower Women in the legal field. Whether you’re a beginner or a Mooter, give it a try, we encourage all students to join in! It is an excellent way to improve your skills while having fun with a great element to add to your CV! The event is aimed at all Undergraduate and Postgraduate students, from any Irish University, we however require that there be at least one female per registering team. There is also €20 registration fee, which is a small contribution towards the running of the competition. A networking dinner will also be provided by the Women in Law Society at no additional cost. We are also delighted to announce a prize of €100 for the First Place Winners, and €50 for the Second Place Winner kindly sponsored by Tracey Solicitors. Welcome to the Women in Law society !
We want to create a safe space for women to get involved in law events hosted on campus. We have found through our own experiences that girls tend to organise a lot of these events, but rarely take part in them. The legal profession is very much male dominated and we want to empower women in our university and raise awareness. We want to create a platform where women and our allies can get involved, make new friends and learn how to navigate the legal field together.
