To celebrate International Women's Day 2023, Law Soc will be hosting a Paint and Sip event in collaboration with Arts & Crafts Society, Mental Health Society and Women in STEM Society. The event will take place in the MSU Venue from 4:30pm until 6:30pm. 

We will be celebrating and encouraging women empowerment, with music, pizza and refreshments for all in attendance. Tickets cost €5, with all proceeds going directly to our chosen charity, Women's Aid. 

On Tuesday December 6th we are welcoming four amazing speakers from the Irish Courts Service to come and speak to us all about their respective careers and options for students. We are delighted to welcome the following speakers: 

- Kieran O'Shea - speaking about the Courts Service in general

- Christian Scally - speaking about the experience of a Supreme Court Judicial Assistant

- Sarah Devaney - speaking about the experience of a High Court Judicial Assistant

- Serena McGrane - speaking about the Research Support Office

This is a great experience for all to learn about the different careers in the courts service and to meet some of the individuals involved. 

Charity fundraiser in aid of the Alzheimer's society of Ireland. All proceeds from sale of cakes will go directly to the charity.

On Thursday, 10th of November, the Law Society will be hosting a movie night in collaboration with FilmSoc! This is our first non-law collaboration of the year and we are greatly looking forward to welcoming everyone along for the evening. 

Before the movie begins we will be informing students about our chosen charity of the evening, SAOIRSE. SAOIRSE is a non-profit charity that iams to protect women and children escaping from domestic violence in Ireland. We hope that through small donations from attendees that we can donate supermarket voucheers to the charity to allow the women using SAOIRSE's services to regain even the smallest piece of independence. 

This workshop will prepare attendees for our upcoming Negotiation Competitions and hopefully inspire budding negotiators. Our guest speakers, Robert Jordan, Adrian Karbownik, and Klara Poleszuk, will provide tips and tricks on how to tackle negotiation questions, what to expect during a competition and answer any other questions that attendees may have. 

This event is a talk by Conor Duff BL giving our society members invaluable information about both the FE-1 and Kings Inns’ Entrance Exams. Topics for discussion will include top revision courses for the exams, how these exams differ from undergraduate university exams and also how to best prepare for such exams! 

This online event will offer students an insight into the traineeship process at William Fry. Students will hear from current trainees about their experience at William Fry, as well as ask about any tips they may have for the application and interview processes.

This event with A&L Goodbody will allow students to gain insight into both the ALG trainee solicitor programme and the summer internship programme,  as well as application and interview tips.

Maynooth Law Society will be hosting their annual AGM on Wednesday, the 27th of April from 6:30pm. Elections will also take place during the AGM.

Maynooth Law Society will be hosting a talk with Supreme Court Judge, Mr. Justice Woulfe on the 12th of April at 6:30pm

The Law Society is collaborating with the NUIM Fashion Society on Tuesday, March 8th at 6.30pm via zoom (meeting details attached below). The event will be hosted by Rebecca Reid, an alumni of the university who is currently working at IMG Models over in London. The event will consist of a talk on fashion law, which happens to be a growing legal practice in this generation. 

Maynooth Law Society will be holding our EGM via Zoom this Thursday 2nd December 2021 @ 7pm. 

An EGM is an Extraordinary General Meeting and at this meeting, we will be electing for vacant committee positions and it will also give members the opportunity to ask any questions or give the society any suggestions.

Maynooth Law Society & ELSA Maynooth are pleased to announce that we will be holding a Negotiation Workshop on Tuesday 23rd November 2021 @ 6.30pm in John Hume Lecture Hall 2 (JHL2). We will also be streaming the event live via Zoom if you are unable to attend in-person!

Dr Treasa Kenny, who is an expert in this area, will be conducting the workshop so it is not to be missed and we strongly encourage anyone interested in the area of negotiation to attend. 

This workshop will also provide everyone with vital skills and also aid your success rate at Maynooth Law Society's Negotiation Competition next week and ELSA Maynooth's International Negotiation Competition next semester.

This event will feature Maynooth's alumnus Ross Power giving a talk to our members about how Irish Graduates can take the US bar examinations. The event will be hosted at 6pm on March 4th.

This event is a talk given by Conor Duff BL on the possible career paths in law. The talk will entail a detailed discussion of the FE1 examinations and the Kings Inns entrance examinations. Detail will be given on the best revision courses for the aforementioned exams, how students can prepare themselves, how the exams differ from university examinations and how Covid-19 has affected the process of examinations. 

 Join us at 5pm next Wednesday February 10th, 2021, for an Insight into Pro Bono Opportunities at DLA Piper. Advice will also be offered on the firm's Summer Internship application and answer any questions you may have relating to the firm.

This event is a full disclosure session with A&L Goodbody hosted by its representatives. The session will detail careers in ALG, how these specific representatives careers found ALG, ALG’s culture and most importantly internship and traineeship application tips. This is important given the upcoming closing dates of many applications. The event will be held virtually via zoom. Students must register prior to the event through a link which has been emailed to them. 

Moot Week is a series of training seminars designed as an introduction to mooting. 

There will be a virtual seminar held over Zoom every day of the week starting November 16th, from students, lecturers, and legal practitioners alike. These will furnish those in attendance with the skills necessary to prepare a moot submission and compete in a moot competition. Furthermore, we will discuss the application of these skills to legal practice in the real world. 

In addition, there will be a small competition on the final day, allowing the students to put these skills to the test.  

All members welcome (particularly new members).

The event will be hosted via Zoom. We shall be electing class reps from all years (1-4) and introducing our committee for 2020/21.

We will also be talking about our upcoming events for the challenging year ahead.

Once again we are pleased to announce the 10th annual Silken Thomas Intervarsity Moot Court Competition! This event is kindly sponsored by Matheson.

The competition will be taking place from FRIDAY 6th to SATURDAY 7th of MARCH 2020.  

Each year, this competition has drawn teams from both national and international universities to showcase their adversarial abilities as well as having attracted the attendance of esteemed judges such as Mr Justice John MacMenamin of the Supreme Court in the previous year.   The competition will take place in the South Campus of Maynooth University, with the finals and a gala dinner taking place in Carton House. There will also be a dinner in Maynooth on the Friday night. All participants are welcome. The winners receive a monetary prize of €250. There will also be a best speaker award entitled the “Mr Justice Carney Best Speaker Award” in memory of the late Mr Justice Paul Carney who had judged the competition for many years. 

This year’s question concerns issues arising in Criminal Law and Constitutional Law.

The submissions are in and it is shaping up to be an amazing and competitive event with teams from Strathclyde, UCC, UL, DIT, AIT, UCD and of course Maynooth!

The Careers fair will give students the oppertunity to speak with  representaives of Matheson, A & L Goodbody and McCann Fitzgerald who will be in attendance. Representatives from the Law Society and the King's Inns will also be present.
