The Geography Society is hosting its EGM. This meeting aims to fill all vacant committee positions. 

We are hosting a Nature Photo Competition starting today, with the winner announced on the 20th of March. We would love if you all got involved by taking pictures of nature from around north and south campus and sending them into the Maynooth Geography Society's Instagram @mugeogsoc. The best photo will win a €30 voucher!!!

The Geography Society have joined up with a number of other societies and clubs to co-host a quiz night on the 14th of December from 6-9pm in the TSI028 Room. It will be €3 entry cost (via Revolute) and all money will be going to a charity that supports the Aid of Gaza! Snacks & drinks will be provided! Hope to see you all there!!

The Geography Society will be hosting a movie night on the Tuesday 28th November 2023 from 6pm in John Hume Lecture 4. Movie will start around 6:30. Snacks and fizzy drinks will be provided!

We are bringing our Eurovision Quiz night back for another year due to popular demand! 

Join us for a fun night on Monday 3rd April from 7-10pm at MSU Venue followed by a night out in the Roost.

Entry to the quiz is FREE for Geography Society members, and €3 for non-members.

Teams will be made up of 2-3 people but if you come alone we will put you into a team!

Some Eurovision karaoke may also be on the agenda ;)

The bus will be leaving from outside The Phoenix on Maynooth Campus at 9am on Thursday the 16th of March. The bus will arrive in Carlingford at 11am, we will have lunch and explore the village to get our bearings until 2pm. 

At 2pm, the group will split in tow. Half of the group (Group A) will remain in the village with the bags and check into the Airbnb. The other half of the group (Group B) will head to Escape HQ escape rooms where they will stay until 5pm. 

At 5pm, group A will head to the escape room and group b will go back to the Airbnb to get set up. at 7pm, both groups will meet and go for dinner. 

The group will spend the evening in the village and return to the house for 11pm. 

On Friday the 17th. We will make breakfast in the house at 8am and head to the adventure centre for 9am. There, we will complete a morning activity (yet to be decided, weather dependant), have lunch, and an afternoon activity (tbd). Finishing up in the adventure centre around 4pm. 

After this, we will head back to the house to make some food and head out to the village to have some St. Patricks Day fun at 7pm. There will be a festival in the village. 

We will all be back in the house by 12pm. 

The final morning, Saturday the 18th, we plan to have breakfast at 9am. We will walk part of the Carlingford to Omeath Greenway in the morning. 

At 1pm we will collect our bags and have some lunch. We will then get the bus back to Maynooth at 3pm where we will be dropped at the Phoenix.

We are joining Creative Writing for a dystopian survival game. The game will involve two survival puzzles, along with Rubble, a survival activity based on a world disaster scenario! Rubble is a team based obstacle puzzle game where one person will be blind folded, and another will be responsible for their survival!

Join us for a fun trail hike through Glendalough, stopping at the ruins of the monastery along the way. Please be sure to bring appropriate clothing and footwear!

Raquel Noboa, Founder and CEO of Fifty Shades Greener will be joining us virtually to give a talk on how to go green on Wednesday 16th November at 4pm. We will livestream from JHL3. This event is open to Geography Society members, and the general Maynooth University student and staff populations.

Join us for our second event for Geography Week. Find us in Silken MSU from 12 pm to 2 pm Tuesday 15th November where we will be having a tea-rrific collab with the Tea Society.  Our aim is to promote sustainabili-TEA, so make sure you bring your cup.

The Geography Society and Games Society are holding a Geoguessr tournament. Compete against your fellow students to win first place. Snacks will be provided and there will be a prize for first place! (Bring your own laptop)

GeogSoc AGM aimed at discussing plans for the 2022/2023 year, and electing four new committee members.

We will be watching San Andreas and filling out bingo cards with disaster movie clichés. Pizza and other snacks will be provided!

This year to celebrate the run up to the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest in Turin, Maynooth Geography Society will be hosting a Eurovision themed quiz.

The quiz will be on Wednesday 6th April from 7pm-9pm at MSU Venue, and we will be going out to Brady’s after

Entry to the quiz is free for Geography Society members, and €2 for non members.

Teams will be made up of 2-3 people but if people come alone we will put them into teams

We hope to use funds from people joining the society to pay for any expenses. Expenses should not be more than €50.

Set up a table in the tent outside of the John Hume Building at 1.50. Members can join us at any time between 2-4 to either pay outstanding balances for the tirp, sign up to attend the trip or to chat in general. At 3.50 we will tidy up the table

This event is to sell the remaining tickets to our Galway trip or to allow members to pay any outstanding fees that they have in relation to the trip. It also provides a causal environment for our members to come up and chat in general. It also allows the opportunity to advertise our other upcoming events, including the Eurovision quiz taking place on the 6th of April.

We are setting up a table in the Geography Tutorial room in Rhetoric House, members who wish to attend the Galway trip can attend to sign up. We will ask members to fill in forms, and give a 20euro deposit to secure their place. Members can stay in the room for the remaining time to chat. 

We wish to hold a table quiz in the Arts Building Lecture Theatre (TH1) from 6-8 pm on Wednesday the 8th of December. The room will be disinfected and pieces of paper will be laid at different tables where teams are allowed to gather. These spaces will be at least 2m apart. Members will be divided into groups of 3, pods half the size of those the government recommends to ensure contacts are kept to a minimum. There will be 5 rounds with 10 questions each. These will be projected to the screens via a PowerPoint presentation. There will be a 20 min intermission during which the answers will be counted. The winners will be announced and given their prises. The event will end at 7.50, the remaining 10 mins will be used to clean and disinfect the  room. 

We will be hosting our Annual General Meeting on Thursday the 24th of November at 8.30pm through Zoom. This will be our opportunity to introduce the current committee to our members and allow for the voting for new positions. 

The positions available are, a First Year representative, a Commuter Representative, an Events Manager,  a Postgrad Representative and a Welfare and Equality representative. 

The agenda will be as follows:  A welcome to all members, an introduction of the current committee, an election of new committee members, and a explanation of upcoming events that we have planned. 

Support the great charity JIGSAW by grabbing some panckaes and a nice hot cuppa Tuesday morn from 9-12. Geog Soc are collabing with access and Hogwarts to raise funds for Jigsaw along with feeding the students! haha come along for the food and some craic!

On Tuesday 29th November we are holding an EGM and are looking for some cool people to join our vibrant society. Due to the success of the society, and the workload of some committee members, we are looking to expand. We have roles in PRO - both a social media PRO along with a poster PRO (training WILL be provided). 
Due to some restructuring in the committee we are also looking for a secretary. 
This is a great opportunity to get involved in a society that is already on its feet and running successfully. It is this type of involvement that changes the college experience (for the better), while also getting your CV to the top of the pile when it comes to the big bad real world in a year or few! 
So have a think about it, if you have any questions please ask one of the existing committee members, we are all tagged in the poster. There is no question too big or small, if one of us can't answer we'll pass it along to the person who can. Come join our team, we'd love to have you on board :) MU Geog Soc.

On Tuesday 15th Nov we will be screening TWO, yes that's double the fun! of Joe Lee's films. The Area looks at Dublin through a very different lens than you'd be used to normally, and shows you the city from another perspective. While Fortune's Wheel tells the story of a lion tamer based in Fairview who's lion escaped on the streets of Dublin mauling a young boy. 

Joe Lee is an award winning Dublin based film maker. His films deal mostly with social issues in and around Dublin. 

This event is a free event open to all. You don't have to be a geography student or a society member to attend, all are welcome,

Standing Rock is a movement started by the indigenous people to combat the construction of the Dakota access pipeline which runs for over 1200 km through America but also through Native American burial grounds and other sites of significance.

We will be holding a poster making event on Tuesday at 6pm lasting for roughly an hour and we will be shooting the video to show are support on Thursday at 11am. We would love to get a few different societies involved, if you feel like your society would like to then can you please get in touch ASAP and also share this with your society members please.

If you can’t make the poster making on Tuesday then you can still come on Thursday just bring something that will help identify your society and to also show your support for the stand rock movement

Join us for a discussion surrounding the spatial elements of violence against women andnsexual assault. We will be showing award winning documentary The Hunting Ground, as well as having talks from feminist geographer Claire McGing and Naiti from the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre. There will also bebaked goods on sale, as well as a raffle, with all funds going to the DRCC (as well as collections of general donations). There'll be snacks and some very important and interesting topics being discussed, so please do come along!
