Our society, along with the Fashion Society and the SVP Society will be hosting a clothes swap/drive. Both clothes and donations accepted, since this isn't an ordinary swap. All money raised will be going towards medical aid for Gaza.

Our wonderful 2nd year rep, Conor, who knows all things moths and butterflies, has kindly offered to deliver a talk on the matter! Tea and biscuits provided ;)

Our monthly clothes swap returns! This one is themed however; we are seeking formal clothing for the upcoming Clubs and Socs awards, as to discourage people from buying brand new items that'll most likely be worn only once or twice!

Stuck for a gift this holiday season? Well bring down a new or good-as-new item to Rye Events Space this Thursday and swap it with someone else! We are even providing some eco-friendly wrapping materials so that it'll be ready for whatever lucky person is going to get it :)

The Environmental Society is organising an Eco-Friendly Christmas Arts & Crafts session to encourage people to create self-made gifts for Christmas rather than buying stuff in stores, as this is more sustainable. Our arts & crafts session is also a social occasion, allowing members to catch up while working on their gifts.

At the final edition of the clothes swap for 2023, we will specifically promote the exchange of Christmas clothes, as many people want new clothes for Christmas every year but exclusively wear them during the holiday season. So why not get a Christmas jumper, dress or hat that used to belong to someone else? It makes the holidays festive and sustainable!

MU Green Campus have invited us to An Taisce's Green Campus Flag-raising event! The flag acknowledges not only the efforts of Maynooth Green Campus, but the University’s leadership and progress in working towards government mandates. This includes GHG emission reduction and broader improvements in our sustainability agenda, which have been included in the Strategic Plan. Hope to see you all there :)

Why not bake yourself a treat and eat it at our coffee morning, where you can socialise with other enviro soc members! Also, from 12.30 onwards, we will be tuning into the Green Campus' online meeting. Green Campus will give a talk to the environmental society to inform us about their activities and allow for people to ask questions.

We will visit Derrybeg Farm (www.derrybegfarm.ie) in Celbridge. Derrybeg Farm is a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) initiative, meaning that a local collective of paying members financially sustains the farm. In return, they receive free organic vegetables and fruits every week. CSA is a showcase example of the intersection between community and agriculture. As members of the environmental society, we will get a tour of the farm and get to ask questions to the farmer to learn more about Derrybeg and CSA.

We will eat the pumpkin soup that was made during the pumpkin soup party on Friday. We grew this pumpkin in the edible garden on the North Campus.

Come listen to our resident lepidoptera enthusiast, Conor, talk all things moths and butterflies. If you’re lucky, you might even get to see some up close!

Feeling hopeless this Climate Action Week? Well, why not join us as we watch "Fashion Reimagined", a documentary which follows Amy Powley's inspiring journey in creating a fashion collection which is both sustainable and ethical. Free pizza included ;)

Join us for a book swap in collaboration with the Publication and Literary Society! Not only does this event promote reading, but also helps encourage sustainability by allowing participants to re-use books rather than buying new ones.

Any student can participate in our monthly clothes swap. Bring up to 5 items of clothing you don't wear anymore and swap them for the items we have. This way, the Environmental Society encourages people to re-use clothes instead of buying new ones, which helps the environment.

Join us and the Tea society as we venture out into the grounds to forage with a seasoned herbalist! Don't forget to stick around afterwards to chat over some homemade herbal tea.

Regarding research and planning, Maynooth is one of Ireland's leading climate action communities, hosting the test site for An Taisce's Legacy4LIFE Green Communities Low Carbon Plan and the site of Kildare County Council's Decarbonisation Zone. What does this mean, and where do you fit in with planning our local low-carbon future? What are the benefits, challenges and options? Join the conversation! All are invited, Maynooth residents, workers and students alike.

Maynooth Green Campus is hosting a reuse pop-up centre to donate household items to incoming students for free. The surplus will be donated to local charities. Please only take what you need. For more info please contact greencampus@mu.ie.

This is the first society-wide meeting of the semester, introducing (or reintroducing) members to the society, its edible garden and green campus.

This will be our final clothes swap event where people are encouraged to bring along pre-loved items and swap for something pre-loved from someone else in an effort to reduce fast fashion consumption.

We are hosting an upcycling experimental session with Arts & Crafts soc and Fashion soc. This is an opportunity to bring along old items of clothing you no longer wear and see what you can make of them instead of throwing them away. It is about finding a new way to love them and make them creative.

This event will be to connect with all our new members and say hello. We want to hear from them about what they want from society going forward and we are also interested in anyone who wants to join our committee. We will order some pizza and bring a lot along some baked goods to share and discuss the environmental society's aim going forward.

This event is in collaboration with Green Campus, Enviro Soc and Cleancoasts. The event will have a speaker from cleancoasts come in and give a talk about Marine health and also discuss there "think before you flush campaign". This talk is open to all enviro soc members and anyone from green campus as well. The aim is to raise awareness about the environmental impact of these issues. There will be a regional press release also.

Foraging around campus with Emma coo, a community herbalist. We will walk around and pick berries, nettles and other herbs to work with and then afterwards share some herbal tea.

Eco-grief is the grief felt in response to experienced or anticipated ecological loss.
Eco-anxiety is a chronic fear of environmental doom.

This is our third collaborative event as part of the STAND Festival. Climate change is an overwhelming topic. When people think about the changing planet and the damage we've done it's hard not to feel overwhelmed. You are allowed to feel fear, anger, despair and grief. But there is hope. We live at a time where there is decades of debate, climate science and activism behind us. A lot of work has already been done. That doesn't stop us feeling the way we do. This workshop teaches participants how to manage those feelings and stay mentally healthy.

The AGM! The time of year where we elect our committee and get down to business. Are you a society member? If yes, you can vote. If not, get registered!

Roles up for grabs include:

President - Responsible for making sure everything runs smoothly through the year. Ensures that the society is doing what it's supposed to do and looks after its members.

Secretary - The right hand of the President. Technically the Vice President. Monitors emails, takes meeting minutes, assists with running the society and books rooms for events.

Treasurer - The money money bags. Responsible for keeping the society budget under control, taking charge of bank stuff and applying for funding.

PRO - Makes our posters, runs the social media, videos and more. Everything to do with promotion the PRO is the person you go to.

Assistant PRO - PRO is a busy job so we don't want you to do it alone!

Extraordinary Committee Members - These are members without a specific role but they're essential to the society. They help with events, generate ideas, lead us in new directions and have fun the whole time.

On Tuesday the 19th of February, the Mu Environmental society are hosting our first event of the semester! Whether you’re a new or old member, or just considering joining we'd love to see you! In this AGM we'll begin with a short presentation on the society detailing our aims, past accomplishments and plans we have for the future. There are also a number of committee positions up for grabs, which we will be electing on the night! As always there will be pizza,refreshments and we'd love to see you bring along your own reusable cup, if possible!

This Wednesday, the 12th of December. the MU Environmental Soc is hosting a Christmas fair in the SU Foyer. 
We want to celebrate the upcoming holidays and promote the idea of a sustainable Christmas.
Often holidays are a time of consumerism, with us all buying unnecessary gifts and food we know we don't need. To help avoid this, we'll be providing lots of easy but effective tips and tricks to make your Christmas more eco-friendly, from reusing things that you already have, sustainable gift giving and more sustainable gift wrapping.
We ll be showing you a number of zero waste products from Green Outlook. We're also running a competition with some lovely prizes generously donated by local Maynooth businesses, including The Glass Doll, nbsp;L'Art du Chocolat  and our very own Maynooth Green Campus Group.

Hey guys, the Maynooth Green Campus Society would like to invite you to our upcycling workshop, this Thursday, the 9th of November from 10 am until 1pm.

In case you didn't know "Upcycling, also known as creative reuse, is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials, useless, or unwanted products into new materials or products of better quality or for better environmental value".

Pop in at any time, materials will be provided but feel free bring any materials youre interested in upcycling, maybe even get ahead on some Christmas presents ;)

As Halloween is creeping ever closer, us at the Mu Green Campus Society have decided to host our own halloween workshop.

On Wednesday the 25th at 6pm we will be holding a Halloween crafting workshop where we will be making cute halloween crafts and costumes using recycled materials :D
The event will take place at the tables in the Arts Block and while we will bring some materials, feel free to bring your own bits like tins, jars, cans ,scrap paper etc
