Upcoming events and collabs

Author MICHAEL COMER (President)

Hello all,

Hope all of you are well. We have now entered into term 2 of Semester 1, which will end in December. The committee has been doing a lot of work behind the scenes on organising upcoming events and collabs with other societies. On collabs, the collab with Swiftie Soc might not be going ahead on 18th November as originally intended. There are some difficulties around the organising of it. We still hope to collab with Swiftie Soc. This will be confirmed when it is confirmed. Also Niamh Brennan from the national SVP parent organisation will be coming out to Maynooth towards the end of November to give Street Outreach training to help those in need who don't have a roof over their head. We hope you can come along to this.

Thats all for now.

SVP AGM held

Posted 11th Oct 2024
Author MICHAEL COMER (President)

Hello all,

The Agm of MU SVP took place on Thursday 10 October in Rye Space. New members have joined the committee and are working together to re run events this year that were done last year. Street Outreach will be resuming in November possibly. Niamh Brennan from the nation SVP will make contact with us to give training on it as you have to be vetted to do it. We also hope to do some collabs with other societies aswell particularly the Environmental Society where they do a clothes drop and donate unwanted items to charity. All that is coming up. Lastly, want to boost our membership numbers so if know anyone who would be interested in SVP, it could be your friend or another student, ask them if they want to join MU SVP.

Thats all for now!

We had 2 events this week! On Tuesday we had our SVP Talk and learned about volunteering and SVP's home visitations. On Wednesday we had our collab with the Environment Soc, DJ Soc and Visual Media Soc that went really well! It was a slow fashion catwalk fundraiser for Threshold- a charity committed to preventing homelessness.

We were delighted with how the events went and are really excited for more events in the future! We also have our weekly activity of Street Outreach again this week! See you guys soon :)

Hey everyone,

On the 24th of October we held our annual Street Outreach and Working with Vulnerable Adults Training. The training is delivered by Niamh Brennan, our college co-ordinator with SVP. All our volunteers who took part in the training are now qualified to take part in our Street Outreach Volunteer programme, in which we travel to Dublin and offer tea, coffee, sandwiches, clothes and conversation to people sleeping out in the city. The Street Outreach programme has seen a big increase in numbers since last year, and we're excited to start offering more volunteering opportunities to our members this year.

Keep an eye on our page for upcoming events!

Social Day of Justice

Posted 21st Feb 2020
Author SVP Vice President

On #WorldSocialJusticeDay we are reminded of why we need to continue to work for social justice. It’s not right so many people are locked into poverty. It is possible to build a more just and caring society-

We must continue to challenge injustice and advocate for social change so that the common good is prioritised and the needs of people who are struggling due to poverty and social exclusion can be met

Join our fundraisers and SVP workshops (such as sustainable fashion and poverty) to gain a great understanding into social justice issues in our society and how you can help those in need!
