What productions do you hold? |
---|
Each year we hold 3 major productions. 1. Mini Musical Festival- Our Mini Musical Festival consists of 4 shows cut down to 20 minutes each and there are over 100 members involved! This takes place in semester 1. 2. Intervarsities- Intervarsities is one of the highlights of the MUMS calendar. We travel somewhere in the country to perform a 20 minute show in competition with our fellow college musical societies! 3. Full scale- this is our main show for the year. A full show taking place in second semester each year, and is by far the biggest production we host. The cast and production team work hard to put on a show towards the end of the semester and each year it promises to be a fantastic watch! |
How do I sign up to audition for a production? |
For each production the society holds, we upload audition slots on our MU Life page. Once on the page, you can book your slot! All audition materials will be released well in advance of the auditions so you can prepare! |
Can I get involved in shows if I don't want to be on stage? |
Yes! Each year we have multiple teams for our productions including front of house, backstage crew, props and costumes team, hair and makeup team and media team! We encourage all members to get involved in all areas of our shows! |
Do I need to have musical theatre experience to join? |
Absolutely not! Whether you have never been on stage or have been singing since you were 3, we offer opportunities for everyone that wants to get involved! We love to see new people coming into the society and learning new skills/ meeting new people! |
What activities does the society offer? |
MUMS have a wide range of activities that cater to all audiences! Outside of our productions, we hold weekly events such as open mics, quizzes and karaoke nights! We also hold weekly commuter events and workshops to make sure everyone can get involved! |

Dear Members,
As the final notes ring out and we prepare to trade rehearsal rooms for sun loungers (or, let’s be honest, comfy couches), it’s time to pause and reflect on what an extraordinary year we’ve shared.
This year, we didn’t just perform—we performed with passion through four incredible shows: from the vibrant energy of our Mini Musical Festival, the heartfelt magic of Curtains Up, the fierce competition and camaraderie of Musical Theatre Intervarsities, to the unforgettable spectacle that was our full-scale production of The Rocky Horror Show. Each performance was a testament to your dedication, talent and endless enthusiasm. The countless hours of rehearsals, set building, script learning, costume fitting, and last-minute improvising — your hard work truly lit up every stage.
But our society is more than just shows. This year, we also brought the community together with inspiring workshops that sharpened skills and ignited creativity, quiz nights that tested our theatre trivia (and sometimes our competitive streaks), and lively karaoke sessions down at O'Neil's, where the only thing louder than the singing were the cheers and laughter. Those nights reminded us that this society isn’t just about performances — it’s about connection, friendship, and celebrating every voice, onstage and off.
So, as we step into summer, take a moment to appreciate everything you’ve contributed — the sweat, the sparkle, the teamwork, and the sheer joy. Whether you’ve been belting out solos, perfecting choreography, organising behind the scenes, or just showing up with your whole heart, you have made this year unforgettable.
Now, as the curtains close on this season, we hope you take this well-earned break to rest, recharge, and bask in the glow of all that you’ve accomplished.
But before you vanish into festival fields, internships, J1s or sun-soaked holidays – we've got a few final notes to share.
AGM Recap
A huge thank you to everyone who came along, threw their hats in the ring, and voted to elect our fantastic new committee — your voices truly helped shape the next exciting chapter of our society! The AGM was packed with good vibes, plenty of laughs, a few cheeky awards and of course, plenty of dancing in The Roost afterwards (because what’s an AGM without a little boogie?)
Without further ado, we are delighted to introduce our 2025/2026 committee:

AIMS Nominations
We are beyond proud to shine a spotlight on our THREE (!!!) incredible AIMS Award nominees for their outstanding work in this year’s full-scale production of The Rocky Horror Show. These talented performers poured their hearts and souls into every rehearsal, every line and every note, bringing unforgettable energy and passion to the stage.
Seán MacMathúna nominated for Best Comedian Act:
Seán MacMathúna’s portrayal of Dr. Frank N. Furter was nothing short of electric — a perfect blend of charisma, wit and boldness that truly captured the spirit of this iconic role.
“His mesmerising presence dominated the show every time that he set a stilettoed foot on stage. He was daring, he was dynamic, and he was exceptionally funny.” - AIMS Adjudicator
Annie Bolger nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role:
Annie Bolger gave us a mesmerising Magenta, full of mystery and edge, her presence dominating scenes and musical numbers.
“Ms. Bolger was also a superb mover, standing out in all of the dance routines. She had a powerhouse vocal which was at its best in ‘The Time Warp’ and the fabulous ‘Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch Me.’” - AIMS Adjudicator
Cian Murray nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role:
Cian Murray’s Riff Raff kept us captivated by his eerie presence and flawless timing. A superb performance embodying the character – and those vocals!?!?
“Mr. Murray was perfectly unhinged as Frank-N-Furter's creepy minion, bringing a dark quirkiness to this role. His vocal work in ‘The Time Warp’ was excellent.” - AIMS Adjudicator
The full public adjudication can be found at: The Rocky Horror Show as presented by Maynooth University MS
AIMS WINNER!!
A massive congratulations to Cian Murray, who took home the AIMS Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his unforgettable performance as Riff Raff in The Rocky Horror Show! This recognition is so incredibly well-deserved. Cian poured everything into this role—bringing eerie brilliance, pitch-perfect vocals, and a captivating stage presence that left a lasting impression on everyone who saw the show. His dedication, talent, and commitment to the character were second to none. Congratulations, Cian — we couldn’t be prouder of you!
We hope everyone who traveled to Killarney for the awards weekend had a brilliant time celebrating talent, friendship and the magic that happens when theatre families come together.
To our nominees: you didn’t just perform — you transformed the stage, and we couldn’t be prouder.
Pride Month – All the Colours of Our Stage
June is Pride Month — a time to celebrate the beautiful spectrum of identities, experiences and expressions that make our world and our society so wonderfully vibrant. Here at MUMS, we want to shout loud and proud:
? Our society is — and always will be — a safe, welcoming and inclusive space where everyone can explore creativity, identity and self-expression without fear or judgment.
We know that the magic of theatre and music comes not just from the performances themselves, but from the diversity of voices and stories behind them. Whether you’re center stage shining bright, or working your magic quietly behind the scenes, your presence enriches us all.
Here, everyone is encouraged to bring their whole self — their quirks, their colours, their truth. We celebrate every voice, every story, every fierce and fabulous self that walks through our doors. This space is yours, a place where authenticity is not just accepted, but embraced and uplifted.
We stand united in recognising that true creativity thrives when people feel safe, seen, and supported. Pride Month reminds us of the ongoing journey toward equality, understanding and love — and we commit to continuing that journey together, every day of the year.
So, this month — and every month after — Be bold. Be kind. Be exactly who you are. And if the mood strikes, throw in a jazz hand or two. Because here, you belong. ??
Until We Meet Again…
As we close this chapter and step into the sunshine of summer, we want to say thank you — to every single one of you who has brought your talent, your passion and your spirit to our society this year. It’s your energy and dedication that make this community so special.
We can’t wait to see you back, ready to create, collaborate, and celebrate in the seasons ahead. Until then, stay safe, stay inspired, and keep shining in all your unique, brilliant ways.
The committee are working hard behind the scenes to plan and prepare for the upcoming year, and we are so excited to share it all with you in due course. Keep an eye on our socials for any updates and I’m sure you will all be hearing from me again soon!
Best Wishes,
Laura-Rose Kerr

As of today, we are exactly a week out from the opening night of our 2025 full-scale production of The Rocky Horror Show, which will take place from April 8th-12th 2025 in the Aula Maxima, and we couldn’t be more excited!
The Rocky Horror Show is a cult-classic musical that takes audiences on a wild and risqué journey through the bizarre and brilliant. When the newly engaged and hopelessly naïve Brad and Janet’s car breaks down on a stormy night, they stumble upon the eerie mansion of the enigmatic Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a sweet transvestite scientist with a penchant for the extravagant. Featuring unforgettable rock-and-roll numbers like “Time Warp” and “Sweet Transvestite”, Richard O’Brien’s quirky creation is a celebration of individuality, freedom and self-expression. With outrageous characters, electrifying energy and a touch of sci-fi madness, this show is a delightfully eccentric experience you’ll never forget!
This year’s production is nothing like what has been seen before in our society’s history and is being led by a highly skilled and talented production team. Direction by Shane Dornan, Musical Direction by Louise Gilmore, Choreography by Mark Lehane, Assistant Musical Direction and Orchestral Direction by Enda Keating and Co-Produced by Katie-Mai Mooney and Joe Keane. This production team, alongside their insanely talented cast, have been working endlessly to make this show something the audience will remember, and they would love to see you there!

This weekend, the cast, production team and supporters of our 2025 Inter-varsity submission of The Beautiful Game travelled to Athlone to compete against eight other colleges from around Ireland, and what a weekend we had! Directed by Caoimhe Moore, Choreographed by Joe Keane, Musically Directed by Katie-Mai Mooney and Produced by Caolán Moriarty, alongside an incredible cast of 18 talented individuals.
The Beautiful Game tells the story of ordinary people in an extraordinary situation and follows the fortune of a group of teenagers, all members of a local soccer team, and their friends. Set in Belfast 1969, our story begins with a team warmup, a team we follow throughout the show to see them through to the final. John, the team’s star player, shows enough promise to pursue a career as a professional footballer, dreaming of nothing more than girls and football. When he finds love with his girlfriend Mary, they become swept up in events that engulf their community and, as time passes, each has to decide whether or not to follow their hearts. Along the way we meet friends Ginger, Christine, Thomas and Lizzy, each of which has their own story to tell amidst a backdrop of love and war.
Not only did the cast put on an outstanding performance, they also won five awards - the most out of any college in attendance! 3rd Best Performer for our superstar, Caitlyn Carroll, Best Direction, Best Musical Direction, Best Storytelling, and last but certainly not least, 1st Place Overall! We could not be prouder of what we achieved this weekend and for all the work that was put in to get this show on stage.
A massive thank you from all at MUMS for your support and we hope you have a restful week off - we look forward to seeing you afterwards!

Hello everyone,
I hope you are all keeping well and having a nice Christmas break! We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who got involved in MUMS in Semester 1, whether you were a part of a production or you attended workshops, we appreciate you! Here is your Semester 1 recap…
Our first event of the year was a Tea and Chats session on the 23rd of September 2024. Since then, we have held weekly accredited workshops on a Wednesday evening. We also held weekly Commuter Workshops on a Thursday. These workshops ranged from Music Education to Scriptwriting to Halloween Choreography and everything in between! We aim to accommodate everyone in these workshops and we hope you have enjoyed them this semester!
Alongside our weekly workshops, we held a number of other events throughout the semester. Open mics, quiz nights, tea and chats sessions, movie nights and info hours are just some of the events we’ve held so far this year! Five of these events were also collaborations. Our first collab of the year was a Dance Commuter Workshop with Oisín Reynolds (MUMS) and Jane Richardson (Dance Soc), then we had a Songwriting Workshop with John Brennan (MUMS) and Catherine Gallagher (Music Soc) and finally a Movie Night Collab with Disney Soc. Blizzard Bash was a collaborative event with MUMS, Drama Soc, DJ Soc and the MSU where we took part in a lipsync battle. And finally, our biggest collab of the year, our Musical Theatre Intervarsity Collab with MUMS, DCU Drama, UCD, Trinity and RSCI, where we all competed in a quiz night in WigWam, Dublin, followed by karaoke. All of these events were a great success and we can’t wait for more in semester 2!
Our first production of the year was our Mini Musical Festival 2024, which ran from Tuesday 26th November - Thursday 28th November, and was a sold out production! Included in the Mini Musical Festival 2024 were:
Director/Choreographer - Oisín Reynolds
Musical Director - Katie-Mai Mooney
Producer - Joe Keane
Director/Choreographer - Halle Cahill
Musical Director/ Assistant Director - Cian Murray
Producer - Éabha Brennan
Director/Choreographer - Alison Kiernan Whelan
Musical Director - Ali Herbert

As always, we were amazed by the talent of our members and we thank you all for making the Mini Musical Festival 2024 the success that it was! Also, our incredibly talented PRO Design, Alison Kiernan Whelan (@akw.media on Instagram), was hard at work throughout Minis, photographing each and every cast. All of these pictures have now been uploaded to our Facebook page (MU Musical Society), so go check them out!!
Our second production of the semester was Curtains Up. Curtains Up was a 1920s concert-style production in aid of MDI which took to the SU Venue stage on the 12th of December. Muscular Dystrophy Ireland (MDI) are a charity that provide support to children and adults living with neuromuscular conditions and their families, and we are so happy to say that we raised over 800 euro for MDI as a result of Curtains Up!
In addition to our productions and events this semester, we also held auditions for our two upcoming productions. From Monday 11th - Thursday 14th November we ran auditions for our Inters 2025 submission of The Beautiful Game. From Monday 2nd - Thursday 4th December we held auditions for our 2025 full-scale production of The Rocky Horror Show. Both of these shows are now fully cast and we cannot wait to see them come to life in Semester 2.
What a jam packed semester! Thank you all again for your participation and involvement. We can’t wait to see you all soon for another hectic semester!

MUMS are proud to announce our recent success during our All Ireland Musical Theatre Intervaristy Competition.
Taking place on the 25th of March in Queens University, the cast of Maynooths short production of Legally Blonde were successful in taking home several awards. This production was directed by Lar Bathe, Musically Directed by Louise Gilmore, Choreographed by Mark Lehane and Produced by Brandon Byrne.
The evening saw MUMS be awarded the Second Best Overall Show, First in Direction, First in Storytelling, First in demonstrating the spirit of Inters and First in Best Performer with Colleen Doyle taking home the prize over every other performer for her role as Vivienne Kensington on the evening.
This is an exceptional result for our society and we are so glad that all the hard work put in by each individual involved paid off. The bonds made throughout this production is what the society is all about, therefore, recognition for the dedication by each member is something that we are extremely grateful for.
We are already looking forward to next year to see everyone again!!!!

Hello lovelies,
I hope you're all having a good week! As some of you may know each year the Students' Union picks a charity to partner with to be our charity of the year and this year it is MS Ireland. So we have decided to hold a MUMS Charity Week from the 22nd to the 25th of February where all the funds will go to MS Ireland.
All events for the week will cost €2 and all money raised will go to MS Ireland. Our first event of the week will be next Monday the 22nd of February at 8pm, and will be a fabulous, fun quiz on Zoom.
Our second event will be a Zoom dance workshop on Tuesday, the 23rd of February at 8pm. This workshop will be with our super talented chair person, and co-choreographer of the 2021 Inters production, Emma Thornton. This workshop will feature dances from the two most voted for shows on our Instagram poles last week, Kinky Boots and Hairspray!
Our third event of the week will be on Wednesday the 24th of February at 8pm and this will be an open mic on Zoom, so bring your snacks, drinks and join us in singing out our favourite tunes in a good old fashioned open mic just like as if we were in the SU.
The final event to bring our charity week to a close will be our Masked Singer Masquerade Ball on Thursday the 25th of February at 7pm. We want you all to dress up in whatever fancy gear you want, and event a mask to keep in tune with the masquerade theme. On the night we will have our MUMS Masked Singer competition featuring some of your fellow MUMS members, and we might even have a premier or two of things we've been working on to show you...;) So be sure to dust off your fancy gear, bring your snacks, drinks and your party mood!
We hope you will all join us in force to help raise funds for this amazing charity and have a good week while doing so. Further details about Zoom links and how to pay etc. will be sent out in an email next week, they will also be available on out MULife page and on our socials so keep your eyes peeled.
I hope you have a great week and I can't wait to see you all next week!

We're very proud to announce our production team for this years full scale , A CHORUS LINE! Congratulations to Gavin, Christopher, Ailbhe, and Louise on getting these prestigious roles. We have a talented and experienced team ready to start auditions the first week back in second semester. The Production Team has put forward an in depth list of role requirements which can be found below, so please take a read and figure out what part suits you best.
Due to the focus on dance sequences in Chorus Line, there will be a dance audition, currently scheduled for Wednesday 5th. Though not mandatory, your chances will be significantly reduced if you cannot attend. Apart from this standard auditions will run on the 5th and 6th of February. Please come ready to sing any song for your prepared role from the role breakdown below. A monologue script will be provided for you at the auditions.
We will be doing sign ups for auditions on a Google Form in order to stop the massive waits and delays we’ve experienced with auditions this year. Keep an eye out for the form and any further changes as auditions get closer.
Finally, we would like to wish you all the best in your exams, and once again, to congratulate the production team.

This week our production team worked endlessly as we conducted our auditions for our Mini Musical showcase for the 19/20 academic year. After listening to over 105 auditions over the space of four days, the team had a very difficult decisions to make and discussions began on who would be cast as who and in what musical people would play a role in. Eventually, our production team made their decisions and our casts have been set for the Mini Musicals this year! Well done to everyone that auditioned and congratulations to those who received roles!

On the 10th of October 2019, out very on Gavin Murphy conducted a welcome class to the society. In this event, Having introduced himself to old and new members, and had everyone moving from the get go with physical warm ups, a musical theatre people tend to do. Members took pat in brainteasers, improvisation and much more all while getting to know new people. Gavin's idea allowed members to introduce themselves to the society and got the ball rolling on our events for the year and allowing members to get to know each other in a fun and interesting way.
