Expert seminars announcement!

Posted 30th Sep 2022
Author Jule Loescher (Chairperson)

Hey fellow Dramateers!

I am thrilled to announce a new initiative that MU Drama is bringing to you all this year, which is expert seminars. Expert seminars are similar to our workshops, except there's a smaller number of people involved, and they present more of an in-depth deep dive into specific areas of theatre for those of you who are interested in them.

I can announce that the very first one is on the topic of play writing, and it is hosted by our fabulous alumni Emma Grogan, who has written many plays for MU Drama. One of her plays, called "My God!" even received two nominations at the Irish Student Drama Awards!

Join us on Wednesday at 7pm, for the play writing seminar, and keep an eye out for our other upcoming seminars on topics such as directing, stage tech, costume design and more!

Xx Jule

Join us for auditions on any of the three nights (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). You can drop in any time between 6:30-9pm, and you do not need to learn audition scripts by heart.

Congratulations on your CAO results! Whether Maynooth was your first choice or not, I can assure you that you will love it here. On behalf of the Drama society I would like to welcome you to the college, as well as our society. This is the perfect opportunity to dip your toe into acting and make new friends right of the bat. If you're not into acting, we will also have lots of opportunities to help out with all areas of theatre production (directing, costume, props, set, tech etc).

We will be outside John Hume on Tuesday the 20th, and Thursday the 22nd of September from 1-4pm, and you can also find our stand at the Fairs Day the following week. Come and say hello, we'd love to get to know you! :)

Author Alexandra Mckenna (Vice Chairperson)

We are hosting auditions for our Debutante Festival, otherwise, know as "Debs" this Thursday and Friday from 7-9 pm.

Now I know what you are thinking-"7 pm-9 pm, what an awfully long time to audition for" Fear not, the auditions work on a drop-in basis so come join us whenever you are free.

You do not need to prepare anything, just come as you are! Debs is a festival for First-Year Drama members, as well as members that might have joined us for the first time this year! Basically, if you want to act and never have before this is your chance!

If you are interested at all in acting you should come around and give it a shot since this festival is for you in mind as you are guaranteed a role to give you a chance to perform and have fun! This audition process and the show itself will be happening online this year due to the Corona Virus Epidemic but that will not stop us from performing in front of an audience as we have plans to stream it online if possible.

Here is the link to the zoom call and it can be used for both Thursday and Friday's audition times! https://zoom.us/j/95370416531?pwd=ZHdIMEV6aTl0bWRTWklZd0Vmb2tMdz09

YMM Play 'Sondering'

Posted 20th Nov 2019
Author Kelly Rennick

Hi Everyone,

Just an update about the Youth Mentality Movement festival MU Drama took part in last week.

A big congratulations to our committee members; Kelly Rennick. Jonathan Cunniffe & Niall Finnegan for writing and directing a short play called 'Sondering' about pursuing positive mental health while in college.

Here's what it was about ------

We constantly live life not noticing the complexity of the lives people live around us. Whether it’s exam stress or loneliness, whether you’re outgoing or quiet, ‘sondering’ gives insight to the many different kinds of struggles that different kinds of college students have

It featured on Tuesday night in the SU Venue.

We're so proud of our first year's who performed the show <3>

First Auditions of the Year

Posted 25th Sep 2019
Author Kelly Rennick

Hi Everyone,

Just an update to let you know when our first auditions for the year will be.

Our first festival of the year will be held in November called Debutantes Festival & this is where we showcase all our new first time actors.

The auditions will take place from Tuesday October 8th - Thursday October 10th from 7pm-10pm in JHT2 (just up the stairs in John Hume to the right)

Whether you have loads of acting experience or absolutely none it does not matter pop along and we'll help you audition. Any member of our committee will happily go into the Audition with you and read the other characters lines along side you.

The way it works is, we'll have a table with pieces from the plays that are going to be in the festival & you choose which ever one you think you'd do best!! You can also audition as many times as you want, if you feel your first try was a bit shaky.

There's a part for everyone at our first festival as we have so many short plays to showcase, so if you want to get your time to shine on stage, we highly recommend you don't miss these auditions!!

Any questions contact us at anytime!!

Hope to see you all at Fairs Day next Thursday <3>
