Hi everyone! 

I hope everyone has settled in and anticipating the coming study week! 

An important reminder that applications for Maynooth University Career Mentoring Programme closes this Friday October 18th ?. This fantastic Career Mentoring Programme pairs current students with alumni mentors who provide valuable career insights and support. It’s a wonderful opportunity to expand your network and learn from those who’ve been in your shoes, so don’t miss out! To find out more and apply please go through MU Careers Connect.  

 Also, a big thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat with us at the STEM Careers Fair today. It was lovely to meet you all! ?
 
Finally, a huge congratulations to the 20 girls who have been shortlisted for the Johnson & Johnson Scholarship Program! If you’re among those selected, well done, and best of luck with your upcoming interview. 

For those who weren’t selected this time, don’t worry—you can always apply again next year. There will also be more Women in STEM opportunities coming up this year, so keep an eye out for those!

This Week’s Event: 

Annual General Meeting (AGM) - Thursday, October 17th 

Are you interested in joining our amazing committee and making your voice heard? Or perhaps you’d like to learn more about what we do and the exciting plans we have lined up? Then don’t miss our AGM on Thursday, October 17th

This is a perfect chance to meet the current committee and connect with other society members. It’s going to be a fun evening with games, ice-breakers, and prizes. We’ll have pizza and refreshments to keep everyone fuelled as we chat about our upcoming events for the semester. 

We’ll also be holding elections to fill our empty committee positions: First Year Rep and Postgrad Rep. If you’re interested in getting involved, this is your opportunity to join the team!

Halloween Collab Event with Film Society – Wednesday, October 23rd 

Get ready for a spooky night with MU Women in STEM, Film Society, and Drama Society as we present the Halloween classic, Scream! Join us for a thrilling movie night filled with suspense, treats, and a bit of interactive fun.?

Date: Wednesday, October 23rd 

Time: Doors open at 6:00 PM, movie at 6:30 PM (arrive early for the best seats!) 

Location: Iontas Lecture Theatre 
Movie: Scream (the original classic) 

We’ll have sweets, popcorn, and a fun round of Movie Bingo with some great prizes for the winners.

To help us manage numbers, we’ll be asking everyone to register for the event. Keep an eye on our Instagram page for the registration link and be sure to sign up! 

It’s going to be a fantastic evening, so don’t miss out on the scares, snacks, and socializing. We hope to see you all there! 

What Else is On?:

 Technica Hackathon – October 26th - 27th 
Are you interested in tech and looking for a supportive, beginner-friendly hackathon experience? Join Technica, the world’s largest hackathon for underrepresented genders in tech, happening October 26th-27th both in person at Reckord Armory, UMD, and online via Gather! This is a fantastic opportunity for participants of all skill levels to get involved, learn new skills, and connect with others in tech.

 CleanerGrid Competition 
EirGrid is also holding a competition, CleanerGrid, giving the opportunity for third-level students to present their vision of what the growing energy sector will need to look like in 2050 to have sustainably achieved net-zero emissions, with chance to win prize money up to €6000 for winning teams.

Dublin STEM Women Graduate Careers Event – Tuesday, November 5th  

Wanting to network with employers and other women in STEM? Then this is an unmissable FREE event that will be hosted in the Aviva Stadium.
