Our event this week is our EGM, yet again. Due to recent events we have an opening on our committee which needs to be urgently filled. We invite all ELSA Maynooth Members to attend as you may be interested to hear what is going on in your ELSA.

We are holding our Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 26th April at 6pm in JHL4. Please come along and help us vote in the ELSA Maynooth Committee 2023/24!

ELSA's International Negotiations Competition is the major event of ELSA Maynooth's calendar. 

The INC 2023 is the biggest competition that we have ever had this year with 14 teams coming from various places across Ireland, India and America.

we aim to have a breakfast morning open to all law stuents. this will be a fun social event. All food will be purhcased the morning of in Aldi. This wil be pre-cooked foods, that do not have to be heated/cooked in order to minimise the risk of food posioning. 

ELSA Maynooth will be holding their AGM on Tuesday 26th April @ 6pm in CB1 and via Zoom!

This AGM will be run with @muflac , with both AGM’s being one after the other.

ELSA Maynooth are holding a virtual Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) next Tuesday 1st February via zoom.

The purpose of this EGM is to elect a new VP for Marketing/PRO. The responsibilities of this role are:

- managing the society’s social media accounts
- creating promotional materials to advertise events/opportunities to our members & followers
- devising ways to grow the society’s social media platforms

No previous experience is necessary as long as you are creative, motivated and willing to learn! If you think that you would be a good fit for the role, please attend the EGM. It will look great on your CV and help you develop transferable skills that can be applied to your future career.

ELSA Day is a celebration of human rights by all ELSA groups all around the world. The theme every year is based on a specific topic of human rights and this year it is 'Privacy in the Digital Age'. 

ELSA Maynooth are delighted to have Ms Sorcha McKeown on board for our main event of ELSA Day! Sorcha will be giving a talk on Social Media & Data Privacy Rights. Sorcha is a privacy analyst for Logitech and deals with a wide range of privacy and data protection matters.

This event will be held online via Zoom. A link will be sent to all members' MUMail prior to the event.

ELSA Maynooth & Maynooth Law Society are pleased to announce that we will be holding a Negotiation Workshop on Tuesday 23rd November 2021 @ 6.30pm in John Hume Lecture Hall 2 (JHL2). We will also be streaming the event live via Zoom if you are unable to attend in-person!

Dr Treasa Kenny, who is an expert in this area, will be conducting the workshop so it is not to be missed and we strongly encourage anyone interested in the area of negotiation to attend. 

This workshop will also provide everyone with vital skills and also aid your success rate at Maynooth Law Society's Negotiation Competition next week and ELSA Maynooth's International Negotiation Competition next semester.

We are so excited to welcome all of our members to our first event of the year - our Annual General Meeting! 

At our AGM we will give you an overview of what we do as a society, including the events we hold and the opportunities we offer. We will also have five committee positions up for grabs - 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & Postgraduate Representative! No experience is necessary for these roles so we would highly encourage everyone to run for a position. These roles give you the opportunity to help run the society and also look great on your CV.

ELSA Maynooth is delighted to host its 10th Annual International Negotiation Competition this weekend (the 5th-7th of March inclusive)

Due to the pandemic, the event has to be held virtually this year, however this has not prevented us obtaining notable international representation.

We will be starting the event with our opening ceremony on Zoom at 5:30pm. This is be followed by our first preliminary round. As always, the INC will also include social activities. Tonight's group activity will be a Zoom Quiz

ELSA Maynooth will be holding it's AGM on the 20th of October at 6pm via Google Meets.

During this meeting we will provide an introduction to our society and committee members. We will outline our events plan for this academic year and also elect 1st-4th year undergraduate and postgraduate representatives.

The International Negotiation Competition was founded in 2015 and is proudly sponsored by Maynooth University Department of Law. The competition draws students and young lawyers from all across the world, from India to the United States as well as from around Europe. It is designed to foster the skills of negotiation in students of law at an early stage in their careers and to provide the opportunity to gain first-hand negotiation experience in an international setting.

Participants will compete against each other in teams consisting of two persons (i.e. two teams, each consisting of two persons, compete against each other). In advance of the competition, each team will receive some mutual facts and some individual, confidential facts concerning a given case, in which they will represent one of the parties. Teams will be required to negotiate the resolution of an international dispute. The competition will take place across the weekend of 6 – 9 March 2020.

The winning team will be awarded €500.00, jointly. All participants will receive Certificates of Participation.

Most disputes in which lawyers are involved do not end up in the courts. Instead, they are settled by way of some form of compromise between the parties - a negotiated agreement. In order to ensure that a client’s best interests are protected in the context of a negotiated, out-of-court agreement, it is imperative for lawyers to possess effective negotiation skills. This applies on both a national and an international level.

The International Negotiation Competition is designed to foster the skills of negotiation in students of law at an early stage in their careers and to provide the opportunity to gain first-hand negotiation experience!

Applications for the ELSA European Human Rights Moot Court Competition are open!

This Competition provides a unique opportunity for students to experience the principles and implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights firsthand. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to plead before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, France. The prize for each member of the winning team is a traineeship in the European Courts of Human Rights.

ELSA Maynooth will be holding an information talk on Summer ELSA Law Schools!

SELS are a fantastic opportunity to travel over the Summer and get an insight into a particular area of law you enjoy.

During the talk we will offer some application hints and tips and offer a little more knowledge on what the one-week courses consist of.

ELSA Maynooth will be holding their EGM/Legal Movie Night on Tuesday the 5th of February at 6:30pm in JH3!

At the beginning of the night we will kick off the agenda by updating you all on our plans for Semester Two! 

We will then open nominations for a new Public Relations Officer! If you would like a committee position on the ELSA Maynooth Board and also have a creative flair for making posters, it is a MUST that you drop by!

Once all formal business is done and done, we will commence our Legal Movie Night! Watch a movie with a legal twist with your law mates that YOU voted for on Facebook!

Join us this Tuesday in JH2 as we put forward the motion that this House would Dismantle the EU!

We are delighted to announce that our Arthur Cox talk has been rescheduled for Monday the 19th of November from 11am-12pm in JH2!

Our speaker, who is a past alumni of Maynooth University, will speak about her experience as trainee in top tier firm, and will of course give lots of helpful hints and tips to those who are considering applying for summer internships this year.

ELSA Maynooth have invited representatives of Arthur Cox to visit on the 12th of November at 11:00am-12:00pm in JHL2.

Speakers will discuss their firm, their internships, their trainee programmes and students will have to opportunity to talk to one of Arthur Cox's MU graduate trainees about her experience as a solicitor in the firm.

We hope you can all attend!

(We would like to add, that if there are any pending members that wish to pay us their €2 membership fee, we will be accepting payment during this event).

The Maynooth Law Society and ELSA Maynooth will be holding a joint AGM on Tuesday the 9th of October at 6pm in Arts Theatre 1!

ELSA Maynooth will kick off the meeting with a brief overview of their plans for the year, alongside the election of their ELSA representatives.

Following ELSA Maynooth, the Maynooth Law Society will then run through their schedule for the year alongside the election of a committee Treasurer and their Law Society representatives.

If you are interested in any of these positions or are simply up for the law bants, be sure to drop down!

In order to celebrate the fifth ELSA day, we at ELSA Maynooth have decided to run a get lunch for all our members from 1-2pm Wednesday the 30th of November in TH2. There shall be complementary tea, coffee and pastries on hand as well as a brief reminder of what we've achieved so far this year. Also it's just a great chance to network with other members and avail of a free lunch. Hope you all can attend!

This event shall be run by our two committee members - Callum Wallace & David Donohue - and shall be focusing on the crucial skills that make a good advocate. They shall be focusing on advocacy in relation to moot courts and how best for you to hone these skills and improve your own skill set. This will be extremely useful to our members who are getting in moot courts and mock trials over the coming months. A great opportunity and we hope you'll be able to attend.

This upcoming Tuesday, we at ELSA Maynooth will be hosting our AGM. This will offer you a chance to meet our current committee, run for representative of your respective year and learn more about the extensive calendar of events we hope to bring to you this year.
