Two of the Innocence Project’s most renowned campaigners for criminal justice, Dr Greg Hampikian and Justin Brooks, join us to share their insights in overcoming systemic bias within the criminal justice system and proving innocence

Hi everyone, we're going to be having our EGM online through Zoom this Friday at 6pm! We'll be emailing the link to the meeting to all our members on Friday. - Dress code is strictly formal.

- Doors open at 7pm

- Prosecco reception is from 7-8pm

- Guests will be seated for dinner at 8pm sharp

- DJ/entertainment begins around 9:30pm

Anyone who purchased a ticket and has not yet swapped it out for a printed ticket can do so at the doors. No entry without a ticket so be sure to remember yours!

Hi all, we will be hosting our first study session this Wednesday (26th) with Dr Black and Dr Marder from the Criminology dept! They'll be presenting the first study session, which aims to explain: -how lecturers grade your essays -the difference between a 1.1 and 2.1 grade, and -how to critically analyse papers. It will be on in JHL6 (upstairs in John Hume) from 12-1pm this Wednesday the 26th. We highly recommend attending these sessions as they may be very useful to students who are hoping to achieve 2:1s or 1:1s! All criminology students are welcome!

Hi everyone, we will be hosting a quiz in the SU Venue this Wednesday the 19th in aid of Ataxia Ireland! Starts at 6:30pm. Teams can be up to 4 people max and cost €3 per person. All proceeds will be going to Ataxia so donations are more than welcome! There will also be a raffle on the night with some great prizes up for grabs, so be sure to get your teams together and come down on the night to support a great cause.

We have invited two guest speakers to give a talk on Monday (10th of February). Superintendent Kevin Daly will be giving a talk on his experience working on cold cases as part of his work with the Gardaí. Detective Gerry Keane will be talking about his experiences working as a special detective during the troubles in Ireland prior to the set-up of counter-terrorism units. The talk will take place from 12pm to 2pm in RY1. It is in the School of Business which is located directly behind John Hume.

This talk will be of particular interest to students of criminology and law, however, all are more than welcome to attend. Hope to see you there!

Hi everyone! 

We are delighted to announce that we will be taking part in the Access Gameshow next week in support of the Ataxia Foundation. All proceeds from the night will go towards this wonderful charity so please do try come along and support if you can. Entry is only €2 at the door.

This event is hosted by Access Soc in collaboration with Lit n Deb, Games, Criminology, Drama, Rovers, Cullacht and Polsoc. The show will be comprised of different rounds and each participating club or society will take part in the rounds. 

It will be on at the SU Venue, Tuesday the 26th, from 7pm. Feel free to join us from 7 onwards and enjoy the show. There will also be tickets sold for a raffle on the night.

We will be in Your Space this Thursday from 10am-12pm along with Arts Crafts & Design soc. Come along and unleash your inner artist and make some cards! We will provide all the materials and refreshments so be sure to pop by anytime between 10 and 12 to chill out and have fun. Can't wait to see everyone there!

Remember that anyone who has requested membership but not yet paid their €2 can do so at any of our events too.

Come along to our movie night event, where we will be showing a crime documentary "Are You Good or Evil?". This documentary is particularly recommended to third-year criminal psychology students, but of course also open to anyone interested! So join us on Wednesday 13th from 6pm in JHL4! We will provide light refreshments too.

Hi all, we will be hosting our Coffee and Crime morning this Thursday in Your Space from 10am to 12pm. We will be serving tea, coffee and biscuits. Feel free to come and go any time between 10-12. All welcome to come along and enjoy a drink and a chat.

Anyone who has not yet paid their €2 membership fee can also pay at this event.

This week's movie night features a spooky favourite, as voted by you - Scooby Doo 2! We will be showing the film in CB8 on Wednesday the 23rd from 6-8pm. There will also be some spooky snacks and drinks provided. Be sure to join us for this fun evening! We can't wait to see you all there!

This week's commuter movie event will take place on Tuesday the 22nd, from 3-5pm in meeting room 3/4 in the SU! We will be showing Scooby Doo 1, as voted by you guys! So come along and enjoy the movie with some spooky snacks and drinks! We look forward to seeing you all there.

Our commuter friendly AGM will be held on the 14th of October from 2:00pm to 3:00pm. This will be for our commuter members and also for anyone who is not able to make our AGM on Thursday the 10th. It will be upstairs in the MSU in meeting room 3/4. The stairs to the meeting room is located just around the corner from the inside entrance to Your Space. 

We will be introducing the committee, going through our events planned for the year and providing free tea/coffee and snacks! Anyone who has signed up on MU Life and has not paid their €2 can do so at this event too. We are looking forward to meeting all of our commuter members at this AGM!

Crim Soc's AGM will be on October 10th in JHL3. Come along at any time from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. We will be welcoming all of our new and old members back for what we hope will be an incredible year! 

On the night we will be introducing this year's committee, outlining our events for the upcoming year, as well as enjoying some free pizza and grape juice! Sweets and soft drinks will also be provided. Any members who requested membership on MU Life and weren't at fairs day will also be able to pay their €2 membership fee at the AGM. Finally, we will be selecting a winner on the night for the Yeah Burger gift voucher! Please note that you must be attending the AGM in order to avail of the prize - if you are not present to claim it we will have to select a new winner!

Come and visit the Criminology stand at Fair's Day on October 3rd! Our stand will be open from 9:30-4:00pm to answer any questions you might have about our society. Membership fee is just €2, and anyone who becomes a registered member on the day will be automatically entered into a competition to win a Yeah Burgr! voucher. The raffle to announce the winner will be held at our AGM, which will be on October 10th from 6:00-9:00pm in JHL3!

All stands will also be taking part in this year's 'Quiet Hour', which will be from 9:30-10:30am on the day. This will be an hour dedicated to providing a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere for anyone who might be vulnerable to sensory overload. The hall will have a reduced volume of noise and minimise bright lights for this hour.

Finally, please don't forget to request membership BEFORE coming to see us at fairs day, as we won't be able to fully register you as a member until you have requested to do so on MU Life.

Crim Soc invites you to join us in Your Space and the Arts Block on October 2nd for our Turn Maynooth Pink charity fundraiser! We will be serving up delicious pink drinks in Your Space, including smoothies and mocktails from 10am til 12pm! Then head on over to arts to our second fundraising event, which is to guess the number of pink sweets in the jar!

Drinks will be €2/3 and guesses will be €1 each. All proceeds raised will go towards the Irish Cancer Society. We encourage everyone to wear something pink on the day to raise awareness for this important cause.
