Wednesday 23rd of October will be our big Halloween screening. The Film Society, Women In stem Society, and Drama Society will be collaborating to bring you a fun event with many spooky aspects to it.

The MU WISTEM Society recognizes Amelia Earhart as a pioneering figure whose achievements in aviation continue to inspire women worldwide. Hosting an event dedicated to Earhart on Women's Day honors her legacy of courage, determination, and breaking barriers in a male-dominated field. Through this event, we aim to celebrate Earhart's contributions and empower women to pursue their passions fearlessly in STEM and beyond.

We will have donuts and tea or coffee while discussing Amelia Earhart's Life and Disappearance.

This event will be held in Rye Social Space at 11am-1pm on the 8th of March 2024 (International Women's Day)

Access Society and MU WISTEM Society would like to announce that we are collaborating to set up the Inclusitivity to Industry and it will be held on the 6th of March 2024 at 6pm (Wednesday), John Hume Lecture Hall 7.

The purpose of this event is to create a platform for Access Students that there are organizations such as AHEAD where an inclusive environment is provided for employment and further learning for individuals with disability.

This is a chance where you as a student get to see their point of view in Academia and a chance to spark new aspirations and ideas while studying at Maynooth.

The goal of the event is to give students an insight of how they ended up in Academia as many students get into third level education in order for them to get a job in industry. We would also love to hear their experience and also gain inspiration and tips in Academia.

LinkedIn’s Women in Tech Event for Students LinkedIn Dublin’s Women in Tech group is hosting an event for college students on Nov 11th. Our aim is to encourage and inspire more women to pursue careers in technology. There are many different technical roles and career paths possible in the tech industry. With this event we will give an overview of the various technical functional roles that are behind the creation of well-known tech products: from front end design, AI engineer, data scientist, infra engineers and engineering linguists, to product managers, engineering managers, and technical program managers. Each of these roles has an essential part to play in shipping a successful product! Participants will have the opportunity to meet inspirational people working in these roles in breakout sessions and ask questions to learn more. 

It is a Speaking event where Workhuman (a company) are sending out three speakers to talk on their behalf and hopefully encourage more pweople into the stem industry.

This is great opportunity to get everyone in Women in STEM to get the chance to know one another. We will also held our election nomination for 21/22 committee members and a brief introduction on what Women in STEM's goals and believes. We will also do ice-breakers and games.

 Panel Discussion on Diversity in Research and Picture A Scientist (Thursday 21 October 11:00-12:00).

Tzirath Perez Oteiza is one of our panellists!!! (our founder!) The MU EDI Office will host a panel discussion focused on diversity in research and the documentary Picture a Scientist.

The panel will address:

· Why is diversity in research important?

· What positive actions can we as a community take to improve diversity in research?

· How do we address bias in research?

· How do we ensure that women and minorities don’t have to carry the burden of making research more fair?

Panellists include Professor Brian Donnellan (MU Vice-President for Research and Innovation), Dr Marion Boland (Head of Research Policy, Science Foundation Ireland-SFI) and Tzirath Perez Oteiza (MU STEM student).

To celebrate International Women's Day and Diversity Fortnight, Women in STEM in collaboration with MSU brings you a Women in STEM Panel Discussion followed by a Q and A. 

Women who are a part of STEM in Maynooth University have been invited to inspire us. During this event you will get to learn about their journey and success in STEM. 

The panelists include: Karen English, Rebecca Maguire, Elisa Fadda, Sinead Barton, Emma Whelan, Rachel O'Neill, Azeema Yazeen and Gemma Irvine.

This event will be chaired by our President Jemma and will start at 6pm. All are welcome!

We are invited to Disney Society's Virtual Escape Room. It takes place next week (Thursday the 25th at 7pm) on Zoom. Places are limited, so we advise signing up ASAP!

Michelle Concannon has recently joined Microsoft as a Group Principle Manager & Site Lead. Michelle has extensive experience working as an engineering manager in many companies across Ireland and in Silicon Valley, working in CISCO and Intel.

The Postgraduate Life Panel: hear from current postgrads, and ask questions about their experiences and courses as a postgrad at MU.

The panel will be hosted by MSU Executive Postgraduate Representative, Nicole Carr, who is studying in the Professional Masters of Education Post-Primary (Year 1). There are six panelists from the following postgraduate courses: MSc Business Management, MSc Business Analytics, PhD Computer Science, LLM International Justice, MA Educational Leadership and Management, and the Professional Masters of Education (Post-Primary).
