French Society are hosting a Soirée Cinema this Wednesday in JHL1. We will be showing the 2017 film Patients. It will be in French with English subtitles. À Bientôt!

We will be holding a French horror movie screening in celebration of Halloween before we break for study week. 

The French Society will be holding their Annual General Meeting in which we will be electing a new committee for the next academic year. 

The French Soc are collaborating with the Psych soc to host a Pancake Tuesday event. It will be an opportunity for society members to meet each other, make friends and enjoy free pancakes. 

We are hosting a Speed Friending Event to celebrate Valentine's Day for members. ESN ans Spanish socs are joining as well. 

We will have pizza and snacks, games and explain the concept of Speed Friending.  

Just having a committee meeting to go over ideas for semester 2 and go through the plan for the Valentine's Event. 

The French society will be hosting a wine and cheese night at 6pm on Wednesday 7th December. There will be some wine and a selection of cheeses available for society members to try with French music and games. This will mark our end of year Christmas event. It will finish at 8pm. 

We are collabing with Tea Society and other language societies to have a big tea party. A chance to meet people of all cultures and try different teas. 

Having a committee meeting to talk about upcoming collabs and ideas for fundraisers. Also discussing ideas about having more French language based ideas.

Our first language meet up of the year involves getting to know each other and practice our French while enjoying a coffee/tea and croissant all in a relaxed environment. 

French Soc EGM to elect the following members- Vice President, PRO, Events Officer, 1st Year Rep and International Rep. 

We hope to meet members for the first time and have a PowerPoint to show outline for the year. 

We will have pizza, minerals, cups, plates and napkins.

The French Society is holding a "French Soc Reunion Party" where we will invite back alumni of the society and students of French. The event is of course open to current members of the society. There will be free food provided. The MSU Venue has already been booked. The event will be followed by a night out in the Roost.

We are hosting a French breakfast in conjunction with the French Department and they will provide pastries and drinks. This is a French speaking event and students will be encouraged to speak French.

This event is a collaboration with the Arts and Crafts society where we will explore French art. The arts and crafts society will provide the material for the activity.

The French Society will hold a screening of the film Bac Nord by Cédric Jiminez at 6pm in CB1 on Thursday 10th of March 2022. There will be free popcorn at the event for members.

The French Society is holding a French breakfast on Wednesday the 9th March 2022 in room 34, Arts Block. See our instagram for instructions on how to get there. There will be croissants and pain aux chocolats made available by the French Department and we will provide tea and coffee.

The French Soc is holding a Pancake Tuesday special event where we will provide our members with French crêpes with various toppings. At the event members will be encouraged to speak French as much as possible and the theme will be desserts and the different desserts of the different regions in France.

The Governing Executive Committee of the French Society has called for an EGM to fill positions on the committee. There will be free pizza at this event. The agenda is as follows:

• Semester programme
• Election of treasurer
• Election of assistant treasurer
• Election of assistant secretary
• Election of international rep
• Ratification of the new constitution

Speed dating with art and Deutsch socs! We will run this event as a language-themed event and will encourage people to speak German/French as much as possible.

Small opportunity for the members of the french soc to get together and watch a movie in french before the end of the semester.

Table quiz in co-operation with the deutsch, japanese, indian and islamic societies. The topics of the quiz will consist of cultural questons from each of those respective cultures including french culture

French Coffee Morning with free French treats & French conversation. All levels of French welcome from beginners, advanced to fluent speakers!

Our annual French Soc will be in Class Hall F starting from 6.30pm. We will be electing several committee positions and discussing both our social and educational events planned for this academic year! There will also be free pizza + refreshments for members! See you all there. 

French soc will be taking part in the Relay for Life fundraiser organised by Cancer Society. It involves teams of 10 taking turns to walk or run for 24 hours to raise money for the cancer society. If you would like to enter a team let us or cancer society know, application forms are on our notice board in the arts block. :)

We will be at the tables in the arts block to collect money from anyone entering Coupe du Monde. We will also be collecting money for the cancer society’s relay for life for anyone whos interested. You can also come to sign up for Coupe du Monde, the deadline to get a team in is Friday the 12th of April! :)

At our AGM we will be electing our new committee for next year, so if you want to go for a position make sure you come along! There will also be refreshments and pizza as we look back on all the events we've had this year and look forward to the next one!

Philippe Abrams est directeur de la poste de Salon-de-Provence. Il est marié à Julie, dont le caractère dépressif lui rend la vie impossible. Pour lui faire plaisir, Philippe fraude afin d'obtenir une mutation sur la Côte d'Azur. Mais il est démasqué: il sera muté à Bergues, petite ville du Nord.

Pour les Abrams, sudistes pleins de préjugés, le Nord c'est l'horreur, une région glacée, peuplée d'êtres rustres, éructant un langage incompréhensible, le "cheutimi". Philippe ira seul. A sa grande surprise, il découvre un endroit charmant, une équipe chaleureuse, des gens accueillants, et se fait un ami : Antoine, le facteur et le carillonneur du village, à la mère possessive et aux amours contrariées. Quand Philippe revient à Salon, Julie refuse de croire qu'il se plait dans le Nord. Elle pense même qu'il lui ment pour la ménager. Pour la satisfaire et se simplifier la vie, Philippe lui fait croire qu'en effet, il vit un enfer à Bergues. Dès lors, sa vie s'enfonce dans un mensonge confortable...

Philippe Abrams is director of the Salon-de-Provence post office. He is married to Julie, whose depressive personality makes life unbearable for him. To make her happy, Philippe commits fraud in order to obtain a transfer to the Côte d'Azur. But he is found out: he is transferred to Bergues, a little town in the North instead. For the Abrams family – Southerners full of prejudices – the North is an awful, cold region inhabited by uncivilised people who speak an incomprehensible language, known as "cheutimi". Philippe moves there alone. To his great surprise, he discovers a charming place, a friendly team and welcoming people. He makes friends with Antoine, the village postman and bell ringer, who has a possessive mother and whose love affairs are thwarted. When Philippe returns to Salon, Julie refuses to believe that he is enjoying himself in the North. She even thinks he is lying to her in order to make her feel better. To satisfy her and make life easier for himself, Philippe lets her believe that he is in fact living a life of hell in Bergues. From then onwards, his life becomes a comfortable lie...

We invite all French soc members to get a ticket for the annual clubs and socs ball this Thursday! Tickets are €30 including dinner and a party afterwards and are available from the Marys in the SU. So throw on your best suit or ball gown and come along for a great evening! :D

We will be screening the video put together by a society member of our trip to Nice! Come along for free snacks and refreshments and to have a look back at the great trip :) Open to all members who want to see what we got up to and what a trip abroad with French soc looks like!

Our Soirée will be a night full of craic, great music, free food and refreshments. All members are welcome to come, and we especially invite those going to Nice as this will be a great opportunity to get to know others going before the trip!

We will be having an info session for the upcoming trip to Nice next week. Everyone going on the trip is advised to attend as we will be giving out itineraries, organising rooms and answering any questions you have about the trip. As the new school year begins, he introduces himself to his new class and begins the arduous process of reaching out to each of them. Marin encounters his share of problem students, teen violence, ethnic tensions between classmates and education barriers within the group, all of which test his patience and -- more importantly -- his resolve as an educator.

Ciné Club this week: UN LONG DIMANCHE DE FIANCAILLES

The movie lasts 2 hours and will be held in Classhall F in the Arts Building.

En 1919, Mathilde a 19 ans. Deux ans plus tôt, son fiancé Manech est parti sur le front de la Somme. Comme des millions d'autres, il est "mort au champ d'honneur". C'est écrit noir sur blanc sur l'avis officiel. Pourtant, Mathilde refuse d'admettre cette évidence.Elle va démêler peu à peu la vérité sur le sort de Manech et de ses quatre camarades. 

Plot. Five French soldiers are convicted of self-mutilation in order to escape military service during World War I. They are condemned to face near certain death in the no man's land between the French and German trench lines.

Dr. Marc Daumus from the Attaché Scientifique of the French Embassy is attending this event to celebrate and develop the university's links with France. French and Irish researchers and other speakers will be giving presentations, as well as our international officer Lucas Staerk to help promote our links with France.

Free Crepes made by Lucas. Lucas has kindly offered to make his family's recipe of crepes for society members. Come along for a nice environment and chill way to practice your French.

For this week's Ciné Club screening we will show L'Auberge Espagnole. It will be screened in French with English subtitles. A great film for anyone thinking doing of or who have already done the Erasmus year abroad.

Xavier, un jeune homme de vingt-cinq ans, part à Barcelone pour terminer ses études et apprendre l'espagnol. Il trouve  un appartement dans le centre de Barcelone qu'il compte partager avec sept autres personnes. Chacun de ses co-locataires est originaire d'un pays différent.

Xavier a young 25 year old man, leaves for Barcelona to finish his studies and learn Spanish. He finds an appartment in the centre of Barcelona which he shares with seven other international students. Each person in the appartment comes from a different country.

We will be collecting the first deposit of €220 for the Nice trip to France in March. Anyone with any questions please feel free to come down and ask us any questions you may have about the trip.

We will be in the SU Foyer from 11am until 12pm tomorrow morning. If you can't make this don't worry we will be collecting again next week and you can even pay at the crepes and craic event this Thursday or any other planned French soc events.

French themed languages zone with Languages soc.
Each Thursday Languages society hold a languages zone. The idea is it's a casual event with people from all nationalities interacting and speaking different languages. They separate into different corners of the room and whoever is interested joing in the relevant corner.

This week it's French themed and there will be a presentation given by one of the members of the languages soc committee in which he will discuss his hometown in France. There will be refreshments and an apéro provided at the event. I highly reccommend everyone to come along, it's a great way to expose yourself to French culture and language. Even if you don't have a word of French please do come along.
