On Tuesday, we were very lucky to host an event in collaboration with the German Department, with Sponsorship from the Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD), where German author, Roman Ehrlich (pictured above with our president) visited the university, gave a reading of his 2020 book MALÉ, and hosted a Q&A session.
We had several members in attendance who asked brilliant questions, and we would like to thank you all for your attendance at the event. We are also very grateful to the department for their invitation to this event, especially to Dr. Cordula Böcking for liaising with us, and to the DAAD for their sponsorship, as well as to Roman Ehrlich himself for taking the time to visit.

Wilkommen zurück!
We hope you all had a lovely break and are ready to take on semester 2!
To start off the semester, we are having an Emergency General Meeting - or EGM, to give updates on what is to come this semester and to elect a new Public Relations Officer (PRO), as one of our PROs has sadly had to step down! We wish him all the best with his future endeavours :).
Our EGM will take place on February 8th at 7pm in JHL4.
The role of the PRO is to create posters for the society and manage our social media accounts (Instagram and TikTok). This includes ensuring all event posters and details are uploaded, sharing photos from events, answering messages and comments, supporting other societies and coming up with exciting content for these platforms (such as TikTok videos). While prior experience on a committee or in this role may be helpful to you, it is absolutely not required, and you will receive help from our other committee members. You will also be working alongside another PRO, so you can split duties, so it is not overly time consuming.
If you wish to run, you may nominate yourself on the night or let us know in advance. You will need to prepare a short speech on why you would like to take on this role. If you would like to run but cannot make the event, please message us and let us know, and we can read a speech for you.
We will be playing card games after the EGM, and will, as always, end the night in the SU!
Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions! Hope to see you all there!!!

Last night our committee were off in the Glenroyal Hotel for the annual Clubs and Societies Awards. This is an awards ceremony which takes place every year, celebrating the hard work of Clubs and Societies on Campus.
Although we did not win anything this year, our amazing VP/Secretary Kate placed 3rd overall in the category Best Society First Year. This is a big category, so this is a huge achievement! We are so proud of Kate, who has done incredible work this year, and has been an incredible support to committee and members alike!

Interested in joining our committee? You're in luck! We are having an EGM for the position of Vice-President/Secretary on Thursday March 2nd at 7pm in JHL7 before our usual event!
The role of VP/Secretary is to assist the president in all aspects of the society (chair meetings in her absence, make decisions should she be unavailable etc.), and to be responsible for all correspondence to/from the society (i.e. writing emails and forwarding emails sent to the society on to the committee). The position is also responsible for taking minutes (notes) at meetings, editing them and uploading them to MULife after each meeting.
The pre-requisites of this role are that you must be a fully paid society member and you must be available on Thursday evenings at 6pm for our committee meetings. After that there are no pre-requisites, previous committee experience is not necessary as the rest of our committee will help you along the way.
If you wish to run you can send us an instagram message (@mudeutsch) or, simply, run on the night! You will need to prepare a short speech with reasons as to why people should vote for you, but it doesn't have to be too fancy. If you cannot be there on Thursday, send us a message or email (deutsch@mulife.ie) with your speech attached and we will read it out for you!
Afterwards you can join us to show us your acting skills as we have our German Plays event! Hope to see you all there!
Tschüss

Willkommen bei MUDeutsch!
We are MUDeutsch, Maynooth University's resident German Society, promoting not only German language and culture on campus through our own events, but also diversity and cultural exchange through collaborative events and campaigns with other cultural societies on campus.
Everyone is welcome to join, whether you are a native German speaker, study German, learned German for Leaving Cert. or if you are a beginner and simply want to learn about the language and culture. Your level does not matter and the society is a place where you can practice your spoken German if you want to! Most of our events are culturally themed, with a few language mixers thrown in here and there, which are always beginner friendly.
Our events are held every Thursday night at 7 pm in CB8 in the Callan Building on North Campus (not CB5 as the poster on our MULife page says - silly president getting her rooms confuzzled...). Our events over the past year have included language mixers, craft events, movie nights, pizza parties, quizzes and more, and we always finish off with a trip to the SU for some food and drinks. We also love a good collab, and have collaborated with many societies over the past 2 years, including Drama Society, ESN, Arts Crafts and Design Society as well as Tea Society and the other cultural societies on campus! We have also hosted collab events with the German Societies in UCD and Trinity. And don't worry if you are commuting, this year we are hoping to host a Kaffeeklatsch at a commuter friendly time, details will be announced once a committee and timetables are finalised.
Our first event of the year will be our Annual General Meeting (AGM), on September 29th at at 6:30pm in CB8, where we will be voting on the new societies constitution and electing a new committee. Open committee positions include Vice-President/Secretary, Treasurer, Public Relations Officer, Health and Safety Officer, Events Officer and Representatives from each year group. More information on each position how to run will be sent out in an email closer to the time.
Not that awards matter, but last year we came second place in the Charity and Civic Award at the MU Clubs and Societies Awards and won the Student Life Award for Contribution to Charity, for our continued efforts to promote fundraising and cultural exchange across campus!
We promise to have a year filled with loads of fun activities, so why not join this amazing society to make sure you don't miss out on any of it?

Hi everyone!!
We wanted to say a huge Dankeschön to all of our lovely members for all your support throughout the year! On Wednesday night at the Clubs and Societies Awards we came Second place in Most Improved Society and Best Society for Charity and Civic. We could not have done this without all of your continued support and help throughout the year!
Our amazing Health and Safety Officer Caoimhe also won Best Society First Year, and we are so proud of her!
To celebrate we are having a celebration event on Thursday night! We will have a Pizza Party in Classhall C in Arts at the usual time of 7pm! Then we will head on to the SU for some celebratory drinks! We hope to see everyone there so we can celebrate together!
We would love to see everyone there so we can get a chance to celebrate the awards with you and say thank you for all the support!
Liebe Grü?e,
The MUDeutsch Committee <3

Join us for our Wohlfharts Quiz-abend on March 23rd at 7pm in the SU Venue. This is going to be a big quiz with other clubs and societies also taking part! You can take part in teams of 4 or 5 and the main prize is a €15 JustEat voucher for each member of the winning team!
Teams can sign up HERE!!!!! (Only one person per team needs to sign up.) – we are encouraging teams to sign up before the quiz, as entry cannot be guaranteed otherwise!
The quiz is open to everyone in Maynooth, whether they are a society member or not! There are a good mix of questions, with rounds including a Film round, a Eurovision Round and a Picture Round, (and more!) so students won't have to worry about questions only being themed to the society/German!
The event is free entry, but we will have a raffle on the night with all proceeds going to the MSU Charity of the Year, Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase on the night. Raffle prizes include lots of MU goodies (such a notebooks, totebags and a hoodie), sweets, vouchers, a bottle of Champagne, a €15 JustEat voucher and more! Please note that we are only taking cash on the night to buy the tickets.
This event promises to be really fun, and is helping to raise money for a really good cause, so we really hope to see as many people there as possible!
