Beginner Lessons and General Theory

Day Tuesdays
From 18:00, to 20:00
Cost FREE
Max 50 attendees
Type IN-PERSON Activity

Location: Tsi028 Ground Floor TSI Building

As of the 2023/24 academic year, we are introducing beginner lessons and general theory.

This activity will have a specific focus for each type of player so there's no need to feel left out if you're already an advanced player or familiar with the game!

Chess can be a tricky game to get into for many, but with this new weekly activity, hopefully it can build a confident and well-versed community of chess players around the university and further beyond! From how chess works, puzzles and strategy, and even to openings and endgame techniques, we hope this can help all players improve and enjoy the complex yet widespread game!

Chess has proven to be an evergreen game throughout centuries. We hope this can make all feel more comfortable with the game that looks complicated at first, but proves to be ever-so satisfying once delved into.

This activity is scheduled for Tuesday evenings from 6pm to 8pm in TSI028.

We hope to see you there!

Also knows and Japanese Chess, Shogi (translated as 'General's Game') is a variant of strategy board game.

Similar to chess, but with some intricate differences, shogi provides an interesting way to improve strategy on a whole different level while also thinking along the same lines as you would do in chess!

Shogi Saturdays will run every Saturday online on lishogi.org and will see one member be crowned Meijin for the week. Reminder PLAYERS MUST BE PART OF THE TEAM 'MAYNOOTH UNIVERSITY CHESS CLUB:SHOGI' TO TAKE PART IN WEEKLY ONLINE TOURNAMENTS.

Come try your hand at the game which is a great way to unwind from the comfort of your home as we bring shogi to the spotlight once a week!

Weekly Meijin Standings:
