| What productions do you hold? |

| Each year we hold 3 major productions. 1. Mini Musical Festival- Our Mini Musical Festival consists of 4 shows cut down to 20 minutes each and there are over 100 members involved! This takes place in semester 1. 2. Intervarsities- Intervarsities is one of the highlights of the MUMS calendar. We travel somewhere in the country to perform a 20 minute show in competition with our fellow college musical societies! 3. Full scale- this is our main show for the year. A full show taking place in second semester each year, and is by far the biggest production we host. The cast and production team work hard to put on a show towards the end of the semester and each year it promises to be a fantastic watch! |
| How do I sign up to audition for a production? |
| For each production the society holds, we upload audition slots on our MU Life page. Once on the page, you can book your slot! All audition materials will be released well in advance of the auditions so you can prepare! |
| Can I get involved in shows if I don't want to be on stage? |
| Yes! Each year we have multiple teams for our productions including front of house, backstage crew, props and costumes team, hair and makeup team and media team! We encourage all members to get involved in all areas of our shows! |
| Do I need to have musical theatre experience to join? |
| Absolutely not! Whether you have never been on stage or have been singing since you were 3, we offer opportunities for everyone that wants to get involved! We love to see new people coming into the society and learning new skills/ meeting new people! |
| What activities does the society offer? |
| MUMS have a wide range of activities that cater to all audiences! Outside of our productions, we hold weekly events such as open mics, quizzes and karaoke nights! We also hold weekly commuter events and workshops to make sure everyone can get involved! |

Location: Rye Events Space 1We are starting Week 2 with something nice and relaxed. Come down to Rye Event Space 1 between 1 and 2pm for Tea & Chats. Grab a cuppa, have a chat, meet some of the committee and get to know a few other MUMS members. If you joined during Freshers’ Week but are feeling a little nervous about coming to an event on your own, this is the PERFECT one to start with. There is absolutely no pressure and no performance involved. Just pop in whenever you can, stay for ten minutes or the full hour, and say hello. Returning members, please come along too. We need people to actually drink the tea. |

Alongside all of the usual AGM business, we have a LOT of announcements coming your way about the year ahead, including the moment we know plenty of you have been waiting for... THE REVEAL OF OUR 2026 MINI MUSICALS! Four shows. Four production teams. One Mini Musical Festival. You will finally find out exactly what is taking over the SU Venue this November, and we cannot wait to share what our incredible production teams have planned. There will also be free pizza and refreshments, because democracy is important but so is feeding people. We will also be electing some new members of our 2026/27 committee, with nominations now officially open for: First Year Representative If you would like to run for any of these positions, nominate yourself through MU Life. Once you have submitted your nomination, send your seconding link to @mumusicalsoc on Instagram so that we can second your nomination. Join us in John Hume Lecture Theatre 1 from 6 to 8pm as we relive all four of last year’s productions: Heathers Carrie Ride the Cyclone Moulin Rouge For our returning members, this is your chance to relive the madness, see yourselves on the big screen, and probably experience a mixture of pride and horror at watching yourself perform. For our new members, this is one we REALLY recommend coming to. If you are wondering what Minis actually looks like, what you could potentially be signing yourself up for, or why everyone suddenly becomes completely obsessed with four musicals for several weeks every autumn, this is your chance to see it all for yourself. Come along, get comfortable and experience the madness that was Minis 2025 before we officially begin the Minis 2026 era. |

Join us in John Hume Lecture Theatre 1 from 6 to 8pm as we relive all four of last year’s productions:
Heathers
Starting us off with Westerburg High, questionable friendships, dark comedy and enough teenage chaos to last us a lifetime.
Carrie
Things then got considerably darker with Carrie, bringing drama, powerhouse performances and, naturally, a prom night that went completely and utterly to plan...
Ride the Cyclone
Next came six members of a Canadian chamber choir, one very unfortunate rollercoaster ride and possibly the strangest competition imaginable. Weird, wonderful and completely bonkers in the best way.
Moulin Rouge
And finally, we finished the festival in spectacular fashion with Moulin Rouge, bringing the glamour, romance, drama and pure camp of the Moulin Rouge to the SU Venue.
For our returning members, this is your chance to relive the madness, see yourselves on the big screen, and probably experience a mixture of pride and horror at watching yourself perform.
For our new members, this is one we REALLY recommend coming to. About Musical Society
We are Maynooth University Musical Society (MUMS)! Whether you’ve been performing on stage for years, prefer working behind the scenes, or have never stepped foot in a rehearsal room before, there is a place for you in MUMS!
Musical theatre is about so much more than singing and dancing, and so are we. Our members get involved in every aspect of bringing a production to life, from performing, directing and choreography to tech, construction, costumes, props, production and everything in between. Whether you want to be centre stage or wouldn’t be caught dead under a spotlight, we’d love to have you!
Throughout the year, we produce a range of musical theatre productions, from our Mini Musical Festival and Féile Ardáin production to our annual full-scale musical. Over the years, MUMS has brought shows such as Grease, Rent, All Shook Up, Little Shop of Horrors, Jesus Christ Superstar, Into the Woods, Cats, The Rocky Horror Show and Spring Awakeningto the Maynooth stage.
And we’ve had some pretty exciting years recently! Our 2024 production of Cats received four national awards at the Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) Awards: Best Choreography, Best Ensemble (Mungojerrie and Rumpleteaser), Best Chorus and 2nd Overall Best Show. The production also received a nomination for Best Director for Gavin Murphy.
Our 2025 full-scale production of The Rocky Horror Show continued that success, with Cian Murray winning the AIMS Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance as Riff Raff. Annie Bolger was nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance as Magenta, while Seán Mac Mathúna was nominated for Best Comedian for his performance as Frank-N-Furter.
Most recently, our 2026 production of Spring Awakening saw Dayna Quinlan nominated for the AIMS Award for Best Actress for her performance as Wendla, another fantastic achievement for MUMS on the national stage!
For many years, one of the biggest highlights of the MUMS calendar was the All-Ireland Musical Theatre Intervarsity Competition, where university musical societies from across Ireland came together to compete and celebrate musical theatre.
MUMS built an incredible history at Intervarsities. Our productions of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie (2021), The Prom (2022), Legally Blonde (2023) and Beetlejuice (2024) brought home numerous awards, including Best Overall Show, Best Direction, Best Storytelling, Spirit of Inters, Best Musical Number and Best Performer.
In 2025, our production of The Beautiful Game had an unforgettable final year at Intervarsities, taking home Best Overall Show, Best Storytelling, Best Direction for Caoimhe Moore, Best Musical Direction for Katie-Mai Mooney and 3rd Best Performer for Caitlyn Carroll.
In 2026, a brand new competition, Féile Ardáin, was created to replace the traditional Intervarsity competition. Féile Ardáin introduced an exciting new format centred around creativity and original work, with university societies writing and submitting their own original musical theatre scripts.
For the inaugural Féile Ardáin, MUMS presented our original production Lady of Hecate. The production received the award for Best Visuals, while our Three Witches received a Special Recognition Award, making for an exciting start to this new chapter of university musical theatre.
Productions aren’t your thing? No problem! MUMS is just as much about the community we create off stage.
We run events every week throughout the academic year, both during the day for our commuting members and in the evenings. From open mics, karaoke and quizzes to workshops, movie nights, tea and chats, trips, socials and collaborations with other societies, there is always something happening. Our acting, singing and dance workshops are open to everyone, regardless of experience, so you can try something completely new or build on skills you already have.
Whether you want to perform, create, learn something new, meet new people or simply have a bit of craic between lectures, there’s a place for you in MUMS.
