Mo Chairde/my friends,
Hello again for the last time everyone!!!!
It's your secretary for the year Kerrigan here. What a year it's been for us all! This has been our most successful year as a society since I first joined the committee back in 2023, and it certainly shows! We held more events than ever, with more collabs than ever, more people at purple training than ever, and all thanks to YOUR contributions to the society!!!
We're also hoping to have our biggest delegation for the pride parade in Dublin next month, and we'll have more details to follow shortly...
BUT IN ANY CASE, we have our last weekly events coming up:
Be it board video or card, play some games with us!
This event is taking place from 6:30pm-9:30pm at Tuesday 5/5/2026 Located in JHL7
We've got our coffee morning once again (again)! Come in for some craic and chats as per, and catch up with folks after the break! This event couldn't be possible without the help of folks from access soc and the chill & skill ran by Aishling and Sharon (who is one of our incoming committee members!) so make sure to check them out too!
This event is taking place from 10:00am-13:00pm at Wednesday 6/5/2026 Located in MSU Info Centre
Our end of year event is our penultimate powerpoint night!!!! It's an event we hold every year where anyone who has any interest they want to talk about they can come in and just talk as much as they want! It'll be replacing the book club this week but make sure to come in to enjoy yourself as best as you can!
This event is taking place from 6:30pm-late at Thursday 7/5/2026 Located in Arts hall B
Before we go, I've a few messages from our wonderful committee who helped make this year as special as it was:
"Be gay do crime"- Kai (the current trans and non binary officer and your new secretary for the year!!!)
""The dance of ego never ends, but there is no need to worry. Enjoy the times of pleasure, and when the hardships come its okay to feel sad!""- Jenny Kerrigan (no relation) (Ocm for 2025-6)
"Don't skip it just because it looks hard. If you never try, you'll never know how much fun and how far you could've gone." Live the octopope- Michael Pan Xiao, OCM
"The game is fixed"- Aisling Mulcahy Ralph, PRO on cyberpunk 2077
"We will be seeing each other a lot" Noah, Treasurer (and soon to be President!!) quoting Ilya Rozanov from Heated Rivalry
“there’s a starman waiting in the sky, he’s told us not to blow it cause he knows it’s all worthwhile ?”- Anya, Local david bowie fanatic and PRO
"Hey everyone, As we enter into the last week of the academic year, I think some reflection in the year is in order. This year the society has gone from stride to stride.
Superficially we hit over 180 members which is amazing, but honestly that isn’t what really matters. We’ve been so incredibly busy, with no shortage of events week to week.
Our main stays such as Gaymes, Coffee Morning and Book Club have been more popular then ever. We’ve had Gay Christmas, Diversitea, Powerpoint night, tournaments and bi weekly safe spaces to name a few.
Purple Training was also a massive success celebrating 10 years this year and featuring a queer artist alley for the first time ever! Some thank yous are in order. First to all of you. Without you guys none of this would be possible. It’s you who turns up to events each week that makes this mean something. There’s no community without you. We are so grateful to each and every one of you. Thank you ??
I would also like to thank my committee. The committee this year is nothing short of incredible. None of what we achieved would have been possible without your dedication week in and week out. To Martina, Sean, Noah, Aisling, Anya, Miles, Heather, Kai, Claire Louise, Gideon, Jenny, Michael, Stevie and Naoise, thank you. I’m truly going to miss working with you all. It’s been an amazing year, Signing off for the last time as the President,
Kayla Curran Mahon
(Queen Queer)"
And just on a personal note from myself.
The pride society has meant the world to me, from a first year who didn't know how to talk to people properly all the way to my last few days of my Undergraduate degree. Honestly, had it not been for it I don't think I'd be here sending this email to you (well, obviously), but even as a student it helped to keep me going through the hardest assignments and the toughest exams, as something to look forward to.
Folks who know me know I've held a lot of titles in many different aspects of college life, but the one that I'll hold dearest to my heart is being secretary for this society out of how much of an impact it made to my life and others lives.
I want to say thank you to everyone who's taken the time to go to any event of ours, be it Gaymes with people like Heather and Miles, Coffee morning with Martina, Noah and Kai, or the book club with the gang like Claire Louise and Gideon. Thank you to every person who got to see the results of the incredible work put in by Aisling and Anya, who pour their heart into every single post and poster. Thank you to everyone who enjoyed themselves thanks to the hard work behind the scenes from people like Michael, Stevie and Jenny, Naoise, and last but not least Kayla. Every one of these people I was blessed to be able to work with and be able to call them my friends.
And of course, thank you to you for taking time out of your day to read my emails. They may not be perfect always and sometimes they go on for ages but to know someone enjoyed reading my work warms my heart greatly.
I'll be very sad to see this all go but knowing how wonderful the committee are next year, I'm confident that it'll be in very good hands. (I promise I won't be like this https://youtu.be/Rq-7NgH-hcs)
Signing off for the last time,
Do chara,
-------
