Hello all!
We hope you’re all settling into the semester and finding your groove. It’s been so exciting to see so many new & familiar faces joining our events — whether you’ve been singing, dancing, quizzing, or just having the chats, you’ve already brought so much energy to our society. We’re thrilled to have you with us.
And what a start it’s been! Here’s a recap of everything we’ve been up to so far:
Tea & Chats – Our very first event of the year, and the perfect way to meet everyone. Between cups of tea, biscuits, and plenty of laughs, we started the year exactly how we mean to continue: together.
Hamilton Dance Workshop – Inspired by Lin-Manuel Miranda’s ground-breaking hit, this workshop had us channelling our inner Founding Fathers with slick choreography and bold moves hosted by the fabulous Alanna Pepper. By the end, no one was throwing away their shot.
Nickelodeon vs. Disney Lip Sync Battle (with MSU) – The nostalgia was real. From High School Musical showstoppers to Victorious classics, performers gave it everything in the ultimate showdown. Who won? Honestly, we’re calling it a draw — the audience was the real winner.
Welcome Workshop – Hosted by the brilliant duo of Annie Bolger & Laura-Rose Kerr, this event gave new members a taste of what MUMS is all about, and we loved seeing so much talent shining through.
Open Mic Night – A night that gave us goosebumps. From heartfelt ballads to fun showtunes, the courage and talent on display was inspiring.
Harmony Workshop – One voice is great, but many together? Magical. Thanks to the incredible Scarlett McCormack, we explored how harmonies bring music to life, and the result was truly beautiful.
AGM Info Hour – Our friendly, informal way of breaking down what the AGM is all about. It was so nice to see people curious and excited to get involved.
Dance Workshop with Adam Fogarty – Energy, precision, and pure fun. Adam had us moving in ways we didn’t think possible!
Minis Watch Night – We all cozied up to look back on past Minis productions, and let’s just say: it got everyone very excited for the season ahead.
Chorus Singing Session – Led by the amazingly talented Enda Keating, the power of group singing filled the room. It was all about coming together and creating that big, bold sound we love.
AGM – The big night! Thanks to everyone who came, threw their hats in the ring and voted, you truly help this society to thrive!
Minis Audition Prep – Nerves? Gone. Excitement? Through the roof. This session helped everyone feel confident and ready to bring their best to auditions.
Mean Girls Quiz – Held on Thursday, this quiz was so fetch. With rounds packed full of quotes, characters, and burn-book-worthy trivia, the night proved that on Thursdays, you don’t just wear pink — you win points for your team.
It’s been a busy start, and we couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to share it with. Thank you all for making every event so special.
AGM Highlights
Our AGM was a wonderful night full of warmth and community. Thank you so much to everyone who came along and listened to all we had to share about the year ahead — it means the world to us to have such an engaged, supportive society.
We’re delighted to officially welcome our two newest committee members:
Lei McGuinness – First Year Representative
Lei is bringing so much energy and fresh perspective to the committee, and we’re excited to see how he’ll represent the first-year voice this year.
Olivia Swift – Productions Liaison
Olivia’s creativity and enthusiasm are going to be such an asset in helping our productions run smoothly.
We’re so thrilled to have them on board — the future of MUMS looks very bright.
Charity Fundraisers
This year, MUMS is raising funds for SOSAD with a variety of fun, creative, and slightly daring challenges — and we would be so grateful to have everyone involved! There’s something for everyone, whether you’re competitive, creative, or just in it for a laugh.
From quirky committee dares and interactive workshops to social games and mini competitions, the fundraising activities are designed to be inclusive, exciting, and full of opportunities to get involved. Highlights include challenges like committee serenades, TikTok and dance challenges, messy games such as pies and sponges, costume days, public stunts, and much more.
One of the key events this year is the MUMS Traitors — a society-wide, playful competition where participants “eliminate” their targets using water pistols in a safe, fun way. Entry fees go directly to SOSAD, and the game encourages teamwork, creativity, and friendly rivalry while letting members connect in a light-hearted, engaging environment.
We’ll also be sharing all challenges, updates, and results on our social media channels, so everyone can follow along, take part virtually, and celebrate the antics of the committee and fellow members. Whether it’s a daring dare, a silly stunt, or an interactive game, you won’t want to miss a moment.
Other initiatives, like a November steps challenge and small interactive workshops, will give everyone a chance to contribute, participate, and have fun — even if you prefer to stay off the spotlight. Every donation, every entry, and every cheer helps make a difference for SOSAD.
We can’t wait to see the creativity, energy, and team spirit that everyone will bring to these fundraisers. Getting involved is not only a great way to support a worthy cause, but also a brilliant way to meet new people, make memories, and have a lot of fun along the way.
Looking Ahead
What an incredible start to the year it has been! From workshops and quizzes to open mics, chorus sessions, and Minis preparation, the energy and enthusiasm from all of you has been nothing short of inspiring. Every event has been made special because of the amazing members who take part, support each other, and bring their creativity to life.
As we move forward, there’s so much more to look forward to: exciting full-scale productions, Minis, fun social events, and more charity challenges to get involved in. Keep an eye on our social media channels for all updates, announcements, and behind-the-scenes moments — we’d love to see as many of you joining in as possible, whether it’s on stage, in workshops, or cheering on your friends.
A huge thank-you to everyone for contributing to the warmth, energy, and community that makes MUMS so special. Your participation, support, and enthusiasm help our society thrive, and we couldn’t do it without you.
Here’s to a year full of music, theatre, laughter, and memories — we can’t wait to see what we achieve together next!
With love,
