Conference Series - Addiction - Bad Mora

Ends at 19:00
Cost FREE
Type IN-PERSON Event

Location: SE011

Instead of a one off conference this year we are having a series of talks!

Addiction has typically been seen as a social problem with social treatments (prison). People generally view addiction as a form of moral weakness and many believe that “addicts should be held accountable for their addiction as they choose to use drugs!”…Neuroscience, however, holds a different view, it describes addiction as a chronic disease like diabetes or high blood pressure and sees relapse and progression as a natural part of the disease!
On the 20th of November at 6pm Dr Katriona O’Sullivan will discuss the morality we apply to mental health and where biological explanations of addiction fit within the current understanding of addiction. She will present her research on the addict brain; describing the addict brain, how it changes as a result of drug use and how and if it ever recovers.
