JSOC Anime Protagonist Night w/Anime Soc

Starts Mon 29th Nov 2021 at 18:30
Ends at 21:30
Cost FREE
Max 30 attendees
Type IN-PERSON Event

Location: John Hume Lecture Room 3

Hey everyone, we're excited to announce that next week we'll be having a collab event with @anime_scifisoc which marks our first collab of the year!!
This event will take place during MONDAY November 29th in John Hume Lecture Room 3 @6:30pm.

In essence you will be creating anime protagonists in either a group or individually and whichever group / person is voted the best protag by the judges on the day wins a prize ?

For this event we have taken inspiration from our previous manga event in that you will be drawing from a number of boxes of random criteria in which you must build your character to fit into said criteria. An example of criterias you could draw would be:

Race: Dog
Gender: Male
Age: 30
Genre: Mecha

So now you must try and create a Male Dog character in his 30s that is for some reason the main protag of a mecha anime ? (I hope you can see the potential chaos that could possibly arise on the night ?).

Pens, papers and colours will be provided but will of course be limited
so do bring your own supplies if possible ??

More details will be explained on the night but that's the general gist of the event.

JSOC Haiku Night

Starts Wed 17th Nov 2021 at 18:30
Ends at 21:00
Cost FREE
Max 25 attendees
Type IN-PERSON Event

Location: Callan Building Room 9 (CB9)

Hey everyone this week we'll be having a Haiku night! We'll be at CB9 on Wednesday 6:30pm ?

A haiku is a form of Japanese poetry. It is usually three lines long and only contains 17 syllables. These 17 syllables are divided between the 3 lines of the poem with 5 syllables in the first line, 7 in the second and another 5 in the last line.

Traditionally haikus are usually orientated around anything nature related but for this night we'll be giving different categories for you to write a haiku about!

We'll be having a competition where you'll have 10mins. to write a haiku about a certain topic. You'll then have the opportunity to present your haiku out to everyone.
At the end of each round people will write down their favourite writer on a piece of paper and at the end, whoever has the most mentions wins a prize ??

JSOC Manga Night

Starts Wed 3rd Nov 2021 at 18:30
Ends at 21:30
Cost FREE
Max 30 attendees
Type IN-PERSON Event

Location: Callan Building Room 9 (CB9)

Hey everyone, this week we'll be doing a Manga Event at CALLAN BUILDING ROOM 9 (CB9 Upstairs)
6:30pm on Wednesday November 2

We'll be going through super basic techniques on how to structure your manga at the beginning of the meeting.

Afterwards we'll give you the opportunity to apply these new found techniques!

We will give you around 45m to create your very own manga, but with a couple of rules:

- Must include 1 character
- Must include a problem which must be solved (or at least tries his / her best)

Now for the plot twist ??????
You must draw random lots on the day before you begin. These lots will have words on them. You will pull a total of 3 lots. Your story must make cohesive sense with the 3 words you pick.

If you so wish you are able to draw whatever story you have, these are moreso guidelines

You will have an opportunity to showcase your work at the end if you so please ?

It's a great way to meet new people and hopefully brand new friends.

The second challenge will be the "Who's that Pokémon" challenge, where you earn points by guessing the correct Pokémon on the screen.
