About Engineering & Robotics Society

MU Engineering & Robotics Society aims to create a friendly and relaxed environment for all its members. We aim to promote engineering and technology across the University, as well as provide a fun, engaging and informative society for Engineering and Robotics students to get involved in (students from all courses welcome). We run a variety of academic and social events throughout the year that all our members are encouraged to get involved with.

To name a few.....

  • First Year Meet and Greet - a great opportunity for first years to meet other students from within their year and other year groups
  • Industry talks - we invite speakers from various companies to come to speak to our members about their careers, this allows students to make their own connections within the industry
  • Football Tournament - first semester
  • Basketball tournament - second semester
  • Pool Tournament - played against Engineering department staff!!
  • Makers Club - we run a weekly makers club in which students can come and use our equipment for their own mini projects

Outside these events, we are happy to announce that our Society members have been supported in the next activities in the 2025/2026 Academic Year :

  • Europe Embodied 2026 - Our Society has organised, funded and supported interested students into going to Europe’s first student-led, city-wide Robotics Week organized by the ESRA & RoboTUM in Munich, Germany between the 21st and 27th of June. Through communication with the ESRA , We were not only be given the opportunity to attend and compete in Europe Embodied's 48 hour Hardware Hackathon and Technical Workshops but also given the opportunity to showcase our Robots & Personal Projects at the Ecosystem Summit on the last day of the event.
  • Two of our committee members have been chosen to represent Maynooth University and the IEEE UK & Ireland Section at the IEEE Global Robotics Championship Malta 2026 in the AI Arm Challenge. The 2 will work together on training Robots Arms based on the open-Source so101 systems to fully autonomously carry out tasks such as pick and place, fold clothes, wrap boxes, build towers etc. without any human input during the competition.
  • The Society Committee has bought and set up the first Society 3D printer of which members can access and build their own projects with.
