Location: TSI foyer 1.09The Maynooth University Biology Society will host a Careers in Research talk featuring Professor Kevin Kavanagh, PhD candidate Ben McGlaghlin, and Research Assistant Holly Hughes. The event will give students valuable insight into the different stages of a research career — fromng out in the lab to pursuing postgraduate study and progressing to an academic position. Professor Kavanagh will discuss the various pathways available in academic research, highlighting the importance of developing strong scientific writing, critical thinking, and networking skills. PhD candidate Ben McGlaghlin will share his experience of postgraduate research, outlining the challenges and rewards of completing a PhD, including time management and perseverance. Research Assistant Holly Hughes will talk about the transition from undergraduate studies to full-time research, describing the practical skills, teamwork, and adaptability required in a lab environment. Overall, the session will provide students with a realistic and inspiring look into what a career in research involves, emphasising that curiosity, persistence, and hands-on experience are key to success in the scientific field. |

With questions from a wide range of the university's Law and STEM societies, there will be a chance for everyone to try claim the top prizes, with raffle prizes too for the lucky few. With all proceeds going to Breast Cancer Ireland, join us at Brady;s Pub 6-8pm December 3rd and put your knowledge to the test for a good cause! |
