Dear Members,
Following the sad news of the passing of our teammate and Treasurer, Josh Brunkard, we will be cancelling badminton sessions this week. Varsity Trials will be cancelled, and the team will be selected based on previous sessions.
An Tobar in Student Services remains open with books of condolence for Josh. Students are most welcome to spend time in An Tobar and there is tea/coffee in the little kitchen dock, and one can help themselves.
Plans for a moment of remembrance for Josh will be announced later. An online book of condolence for Josh is available on the Student Services website.
In place of our Tuesday Badminton slot, MU Badminton will be meeting at Phoenix at 8pm for a night to remember Josh.
If you or somebody you know needs to avail of student services, you can reach out online or on campus.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Josh’s family and friends.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Hi Guys,
Student Sports Ireland were thinking of doing a singles/ mixed doubles competition. The event would be a day long, starting from 10am to 6pm. It would take place in Baldoyle Dublin and we would facilitate a bus for you. We also can give you a note that will excuse you from classes with mandatory attendance. The event may not go ahead. They only want numbers for now to see if people are interested.Â
Please note that due to how close intervarsities is, the committee would not be able to pair people into mixed doubles. You will have to find your own partner. the form closes at 10am Monday. Only people who complete this form will be updated on the competition going forward.Â
Any questions, give me a shout!

We have playlists for topics such as tips for beginners, serves, footwork and so much more. We hope this helps you keep on top of your game while we're waiting to get back on the court!

Hello everyone. Hope ye all are having a great day. As the semester is coming to an end, here is a quick rewind of the events/ fun we have had throughout the semester.
October - October was a busy month where we met some new beautiful people for the first time and reunited with others at the Clubs/ Socs Day. We held our AGM where we filled you in on everything you would need to know about the club and of course, there was pizza! And most importantly, we began playing badminton!
November - A few of us from the badminton club traveled to UL to take part in ISBT's 2019. It was a great event where everyone who took part could be proud of how they played. Through grades A - C, we had many people who reached semi-finals and we had 1 winner, Kevin Daly (the president) in the B Singles. We all enjoyed ourselves there and we will be hoping to go again next year.
December - In December, we held our own badminton tournament for everyone to take part in. After two days of playing, we had our two winners: Ian and Kevin Leonard. There was so many great matches played throughout the tournament and most importantly, there was free chocolate/ sweets!
Thanks again for the great semester and hope to see you all in semester two for some more events/ fun. Keep smashing it!

From the badminton club, myself, Kevin Daly, Azriel and Jeevan all took part and we finished first in the team event. Thanks to the MSU for holding the event and for the prizes. It was a great occasion to raise money for charity.Â

Hello everyone. At the end of October, a few members from the badminton club traveled to UL to take part in a tournament, ISBT's Limerick. It lasted 3 days and everyone enjoyed themselves playing in it and socializing with people from other colleges. At the end of it, we had many people who reached semi-finals and finals across grades A,B and C. Clodagh (playing Grade A), Abigail, Kevin Leonard, Kevin Daly and myself (although I was too sick from drinking the water to play my semi-finals) all made it to the semi-final and/or final stages. We had one winner, Kevin Daly in grade B singles. Thanks to everyone involved and we will hopefully attend this competition again next year.
Joseph Daly,
Badminton Secretary.
